OK, gotta believe these guys have given a little thought to the controls and how that will affect game play and the success of the game overall. Honestly, I have used Joystick/Controller for just about every game I have ever played. Will be a complete departure if I have to change to mouse/keyboard....

One other thing. Even if you dont contribute on their forums, spread the word about the game within the community to others that may not frequent this forum. In games, clans, other forums, etc.... Just get others to check out what they have to date and if it peaks their interest they will find out h...

OK, a little clarification. The intent is that you visit their website at www.minerwars.com and then register with their forum. That is where the ideas and such are submitted. Talking things out in this thread is fine, but dont expect them to troll all the forums and such for suggestions. Understand...

Guys, have not been very active on the forum, but most everyone knows me from the Descent games over the years. I have been watching Miner Wars with great interest over the past 6 months, and my honest opinion is that this is as close as anyone will ever get to a game that exemplifies everything we ...

Re:

Roid said- \"The asteroids can be of such epic size that you could have an entire hollowed out \"Descent\" mine structure in there.\" There was a quote by the original developer on their website, talking about how they could eventually have fully destructible asteroids that are t...

Another thing to consider is that they have a screenshot with 300 ships on it. Basically, they are saying that you could have a dogfight, in an endless enviroment, with 300 ships moving across your screen at any given time. So maybe there would be your fast paced portion? Go to the Pics section of t...

Just a little clarification from the website. 1) We will start offering our game at a promotion pricing level that will be at roughly 1/3 of the final product price 2) All the players that will buy the game at this promotion pricing will get a full game with no extra charge on the day of release 3) ...

Re:

Well, then my info is out of date. My description of the situation was current when I was working on D4 for Orbital. Not entirely out of date, as you probably would have wanted to keep things such as the original "Ships", physics of objects (which I assume would be in the code), etc.. In ...

Re:

what does that imply legally? Well, basically that the name "Descent" can now be used in title to be associated with a Video game. In other words, you could create a game called "Descent 4" without fear of Interplay. You would, however, be best served to go ahead and capture tha...

Actually, they abandoned the Trademark registry with the USPTO and retained the copyrights.

Well that would fall under the \"trademark\" section and not the copyright. BTW, the Descent trademark has been abandoned and Interplay has no claims to it anymore. They have, however, continued to keep the Freespace one active. Thinking of contacting the PTO about acquiring that Trademark.

Actually, I am curious as to why everyone is so caught up in the \"Copyright\" portion of this. I am by no means a programmer or know much about it. I do, however, have a substantial background from the legal perspective and Intellectual Properties. Unless what is a part of the actual char...

Clayman, Actually, I was going off of the forums and such as far as involvement in the past 6 months. As I previously noted, I only started playing again about a week ago, and up until that point was gone for about 1.5 years. And even if someone only pops in monthly, that is still investing some int...

Well, tried to get back in the mines, however the "Ol' Farts Club" ....er, forgive me...the "retirement group" or whatever kept saying that I was banned or could not find server. I am unable to join any of the games. Is this a matter of a locked down IP range? Or is there a secre...

Wow, flash back....

Stopped playing this game well over a year and a half ago due to job, family and what appeared to be a failing population in the Descent community. On a whim, I just happened to Google "Descent 4" out of sheer boredom (besides, imagine my surprise from my Google of Hitchhikers Guide only t...
