Hi there. I've just released a C library that provides functions
to read, parse, and write Descent 3 demo files. It also has
bindings to the Lua scripting language.
You can find it, and further info on it, on this descentforum.de
thread. Enjoy!

Yeah the driller was annoying, but also cool. The Descent 1 AI is the only one that can give you nasty surprises like that, even if you know the level well. Descent 2 has bots that can snipe but they were just annoying. Descent 3 is even worse. Most of its bots can only kill you because they're so d...

How about the fact that Vista was initially supposed to have full support for `` trusted computing '' (as well as some other features like WinFS)? I'm guessing that, given the magnitude of TC, at some point they realized they had no chance of ever completing it in under (say) 10 years, or even at al...

Gekko, please do some research. Your claim about incentive is a myth that has already been debunked by the GNU manifesto over 20 years ago . Licenses that prohibit commercial (re)distribution do not qualify as free software or even open source licenses. Take a look at some commercial GNU/Linux vendo...

The only issue would be the Descent trademark, which is why the game isn't going to be called OpenDescent. So... there are several projects now which intend to develop a new 6DoF from scratch: GeoCore, currently being kept alive by psion; OpenDescent, progressing very slowly through its design phase...

Smart missiles - for use in dark alleys and to eliminate any surprises waiting around the corner. The RIAA and like-minded associations would make good targets for any available black sharks, although they should be applied with a bit more care. The Transmogrifier Tonic from Guild Wars would also be...

There are 2 significantly different ways to play it on GNU/Linux: you can use the native port by Loki, or you can run the Windows version under GNU/Linux by using wine . The latter works perfectly for me (it runs at least as good as it did on Windows), although I've heard a few people complain that ...

I thought quad 4 from D1 was the most efficient... 52 damage for a full hit. Beats quad 6 from d2 which is 50. D2 Fusion only uses half of the power compared to D1. However in D1 multiplayer it switches to D2-like level. Huh? D1 fusion is 30 per blob uncharged compared to 15 in D2, I checked very re...

Yeah but he sponsors the server, in fact I think he's the one who leased (/register/whaddyacallit) it; you try convincing the admin to drop his rights. Fortunately, he's not a complete idiot, merely a bit paranoid. So the matter can be resolved with a bit of diplomacy. Also, as I understand it most ...

In the DeepBlue case: I don't think it was the trichording (in fact I didn't see you trichord much for speed of movement), but the lightning reflexes and agile ship movement. Very few pilots can do that and some players may think it's just impossible so they cry hax. Maybe you should record a demo o...

I used one for D3 for a while, but it didn't take long before it started drifting which is rather annoying. Didn't have any other problems with it although players who use the hat switch to slide (which I don't) tend to break it. :) My current joystick is a Thrustmaster Fox 2 Pro which has worked we...

Google \"d3-linux-files\". Go up a few directories.
I should note that D3 runs perfectly well under wine though (at least for me it does).

I mostly agree with Krom on the damage vs long range effectiveness stuff. That's also why I'm a bit skeptical about the XRP; I hope you can really avoid making it into another MD. The overexposure effect and reload won't matter if someone (with a good aim) flies around with the thing fully charged; ...
