I can totally identify with the article. When I was a newbie the drillers always scared the crap out of me. I couldn't even finish level 6 on trainee because the level is filled to the brim with them. Even as an experienced player I still hate the things because they have to be sniped unless they're ...

Yeah, I'd love to see more D1 SP demos. I think the one you sent me is just about the only one I've seen of a good player. Pretty much all the videos on YouTube are by newbs or average players. There's one guy beating 1-5 on insane without dying, but that's not much to brag about, especially since ...

I just beat level 11 on insane + cold start, and I'm sweating. I had to use a few save points, so I'll work on doing it in one run. What's really tricky is that most of the level is one interconnected area, so the super hulks and drillers can show up just about anywhere. D3 multiplayer has made me ...

BTW Drak, have you beaten all 30 levels insane + cold start? People who've done that probably have the best vantage point to answer this more definitively, although choice of primaries and flying style does shake things up a bit. Supposedly Testi has beaten every level on insane without even dying ...

D3k had a heck of a lot of good players, a lot of which I never even saw, only heard stories about, since I didn't even touch D3 multiplayer until '01 and didn't start playing regularly until early '03. But they also had well over 50 different pilots play for them since they were around since the ...

True, though that still misses some of our guys like JazzyJet, Fezzik, Javed, Lobotomy, etc. ANTS probably had the strongest roster of any team, since they had all the asylum LAN guys like birdseye, Nirvana and such, but from my understanding and looking back through old D3TL match reports a lot of ...

Re:
Heh, here's something I've never gotten about the Star Wars vs. Star Trek debates--they always work out to The Federation vs. The Empire. That's weird to me because the Empire is the baddie. I mean, Trekkies talk about who the Enterprise could take on, not who Q could take out. LOTR fans are always ...

Re:
Needed hotter chicks. I thought Uhura was pretty hot. Anyway, I'm only a minor Trekkie, and I can definitely see the case against it in terms of how it feels as a Star Trek film, and Abrams giving it the "Star Wars prequel treatment," but honestly I can read books if I want great plots, and ...

Re:
Yeah, people do naturally disagree on whether any of the D2 weapons supersede the D1 weapons completely. I don't think they do either, although I am very unlikely to use Spreadfire in D2 that said - primarily because its damage is so low compared even to weapons that *are not* Helix. Nonetheless ...

Yeah, I know all the tactics. It's those damn vulcan drillers that eat away at my shield unless I snipe them. There's almost 30 of them in there, and there's not enough shield to go around to restore all the damage they do. I usually use the lava cloak and red key room invulnerability to waste those ...

We aren't losing our manufacturing base - 2006 was an all-time high for US manufacturing output. You can't look at employment numbers. It's productivity that matters, working with more capital, thus producing more with fewer workers. That is exactly how we've gone from 98% or so of the population ...

Well, I don't think just anyone can do it, but just from looking through a few back threads I recall Krom and Testiculese saying they'd beaten D1 on insane countless times, and Drakona describes levels 1-8, cold start on insane as easy-easyish. There's a poll that says at least 14 people have beaten ...

Descent 1 Level 6 Insane
Does anyone know of or have a demo of beating this without dying and without too much sniping? It's not that tough on ace, but insane really ratchets it up a notch. Or if anyone could make a demo that'd be sweet.

I've been looking for years for music like the D1 music (the music for level 1 being my template) and haven't found nearly as much as I'd like to have. What comes the closest that I've found is industrial and drum and bass sub-genres. For example, Ogre of Skinny Puppy was rightly featured on the D2 ...

I have the levels, because I can run through them in single player. Maybe a little background would help. I used to play online a lot several years ago, and never really had any problems. When I to the multiplayer menu, select TCP/IP, enter in an address, and then select the game listed and try to join, it says \"error initializing game module.\" Any idea what the problem is?

Definitely the vulcan driller. I remember when I first started playing the D1 shareware demo, and I could never get past level 6 even on trainee because there are like 30 of them in there. Fast forward a decade and a half and it's still my most feared. Sure, heavy hulks, fusion hulks, and platform ...
