Re: The Descent Underground Debacle

I was on their Strike Team so I can vouch for many of the things Eric is saying here. The game is basically done, and it just needs some beta testing and optimization for release. When we started testing the singleplayer it was in at best an alpha state, and fairly obvious it hadn't been tested at ...

Re: Configuration for LAN games

I confirmed the host firewall was off but added exceptions for the server's port 2092. I can now see the server on the client.

Thanks.

Configuration for LAN games

What are the steps for configuring a Descent 3 dedicated server to run as a LAN game (i.e. for a LAN party)? This would not be for IPX.

I suspect it's something simple but it escapes me.

Will GameSpy Multiplayer Shutting Down affect Descent 3?

http://www.wormsmayhem.com/images/graphics/logo_gamespy.gif It has been announced that GLU Mobile, the company that took over the Powered By GameSpy matching service from IGN, will be shutting down on May 31, 2014. This affects on-line play for hundreds of games. I have long noted that servers for ...

Re: USB Converter for MS Sidewinder 3DPro, PP, and FFP

I found the breadboard design quite simple to assemble. I spent about $60 on the parts listed and the illustrations were easy to follow. Event the wires were color coded by length. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I recall seeing a note by Grendel somwhere that the converter did not include s...

Re: USB Converter for MS Sidewinder 3DPro, PP, and FFP

Excellent work Grendel. I just built my converter using the Radio Shack breadboard assembly and it works perfectly. The only small issue that arose is that Winford added a 16th pin for a shield to their DB15 breadboard adapter. I just trimmed it down flush with the board and it was good to go. Thank...

SolidWorks

EngDrewman, I'm a SolidWorks applications engineer for a reseller with a background in manufacturing (machining, welding, fabrication, etc...). As a hobby I use SolidWorks to model props from movies, tv shows and video games. If I'm inspired enough I go the full distance and build them. Last year I ...

Noobs

I agree that it would be handy for newbies to get initial contact (how many newbies are there anyway ?) There are still a few noobs out there, if not to D3 there are others who have played D3 but are new to D3 multiplayer (like me). Also be aware that the current commercial releases of D3, such as ...

To the best of my knowledge today, December 15th 2009, is the 15th anniversary for the release of the first shareware version of Descent.

Best $5.25 I’ve ever spent.

Best $5.25 I’ve ever spent. These are really cool shades! 8-) They are supported by Descent 1 patched to v1.5 and Descent 2, but the DOS version only. I got them running on an old 233MHZ Win 98 machine and the effect is awesome. I also managed to get them running on an XP machine with the latest ver...

Simuleyes 3D stereo VR glasses

I just won a pair of Simuleyes 3D stereo glasses on eBay for cheap ($5.25 including shipping and handling) These were originally supported for D2 on DOS and Windows 95, and possibly D1 on DOS. I don't know if VR was ever an option on D3. For the price it was worth taking a chance. If nothing else I ...

I’m trying to set up a dedicated server and am getting an error when using the D3Servertool V3. After I select “Start server…” there is a delay of several seconds and then a dialog box is displayed titled “Descent 3 Error” with the message “Error: Cannot load Dedicated Server config file.” I was abl...
