Re: Design a robot contest

Yup, still interested. You use 3ds don't You? That will be fine. If you're interested in becoming a developer then sign up to the defender forums. This will let you have access to versions of the game before they become public. Although some of these may not work at all.... (at the moment the ai is ...

Re: Defender (Now with exe download.)

No problems, this is still being actively developed. Head over to defender-space.x10.mx and go to the forums. There under releases you can find a link from the source forge page. But I suspect that you have the latest, it should be number 3? The spinny Pyro is the ship selection scene. Hit enter to ...

Another Quake

I'm getting tired of these. Today it was a 5.8 and a 6 on the Richter scale, along with numerous 3's and 4's. The area I'm in has pretty much no damage, but the other side of the city will spend Christmas digging their houses out of the silt. Ah well, we can't control it. The shaking isn't too bad, ...

Linkin' Linux

Well, For those who know, I'm making Defender, a descent clone. As part of managing this project I have to release videos every now and then on youtube to let people know I'm alive. My first (and so far only) video was OK, but suffered from a low frame-rate due to my computer not having enough power...

Vim

I was looking at text editors the other day and came across vim. Vim is command line based, and uses the writing fingers to navigate (ie H to more left, J up and such) It takes quite some getting used to! Anyone else used vim before? Seems to me to be quite nice, but yes, a very steep learning curve...

Made a new one:

Link

It's pretty simple, but easy to navigate around.
The yellow arrow is the main menu, and there is a desktop switcher and some other stuff up the top that you can't see too well.

for me it's the opposite!

Done and installed. Differences: - When you have a linux application (like from portablelinuxapps.org) on a memory stick, then you can't double click to run it, you can't change the permission to make it executable. For some reason you have to copy it to the hard drive first, which kind of defeats t...

Look at the close button (on the ubuntu-fail). It's a fake. 1) The close button is on the wrong side (in the default theme the close button is on the left) 2) There's that minced but of color near the close button 3) The top bar always has text in it. Still, it makes an epic image. And Duper, that r...

Re: New Gas Motor of the Future?

Rotary engines are nothing new at all, there are many older ones dating to the 1960's (I think). The problem with them is the wear-out time. The wankel rotary engine for example, had much more power than an equivalent size/mass engine, less vibration etc, but the contact between the rotor and the ca...

I've decided to try a different controller for Descent, seeing as I've been on keys only since I started. For once windows may be smarter than linux! Actually it's just the zip tool. When I look at it using the "tree" terminal command, it realizes it's a loop and stops at the forth time through. In windows I suspect that the links are really links (ie a physical file) rather than another refer...
