I can't expect some software written for Windows to ever run on my Linux system, and I don't. On the other hand, if there is a native Linux version of a software product (say, an action game), I can really expect it to actually be usable on Linux. I've purchased the product to run under Linux and I...

Re: Patch Status
For the best-case scenario, take a look at Freespace 2's Source Code Project. Something like that would be the best thing to ever happen to Descent. Linky link link: http://icculus.org/freespace2/ Oddly enough, the same host I suggested for an open-source Descent 3. :) Or http://dynamic3.gamespy.co...

Re: Patch Status
Hypothetically speaking, letâ??s say someone released the source code (acquired by whatever means). What do you think would happen? If it's under a moderately open license? <conjecture> See if you can't get it hosted on icculus.org. Public CVS and bugtracking. Get it compiling on a few platforms (I...

Either that, or pass the code over to someone who could take the time to finally finish it. I know there are probably legal issues, but I highly doubt that anyone on the planet would care in the slightest if someone got their hands on D3's source code. I'm sure that there's at least one person in t...

I was always under the impression that this show was always intended for older audiences. Cartoons in Japan have long been more than just a kid's thing, but when they brought it over to the U.S., the networks decieded it had to be marketed at kids because it was a cartoon, and only kids watched cart...

A neutron star's magnetic field is not caused by an iron core like that of Earth's magnetic field, but rather is a product of the extreme high temperature of the star stripping its atoms of their electrons. The motion of the electric field of these subatomic particles produces the magnetic field we ...

Linux violates more than 228 patents, according to a recent report from a research group WHAT?! I'd be suprised if it wasn't higher, actually. At the same time, Windows probabbly violates at least that many. That's what happens when you have a patent office that will accept basically anything witho...

Cable TV Reception
I'm sad. I have cable TV, but the reception is terrible. I feel like I should be grabbing an antenna to adjust and bend somewhere, but there's nothing to be done. Certain sets in the house have static on certain channels, or just slightly fuzzy pictures on some. Many channels have some nasty ghostin...

Comparing Raw-CD and bitrate is apples and oranges: FLAC will get that down to ~700kbps. 100% lossless. So now 320kbps is 50% of CD quality. Audio compression (mostly what you get on Pop music these days) will save you ~30% of the space again with no perceptual loss (now down to 450kbps). Chop off 1...

How are we supposed to test it if we don't know where it is?
The only link I could find that seemed right was http://www.fragwerkz.com/dbb/ , but the colors are way off. The fonts look really excellent tho.

Anybody know if this actually included the Nazi swastika (all 45 degree lines), or just the Hindu (IIRC) symbol (all vertical/horizontal lines) that the Nazi's defiled? Yay newspeak. As soon as you eliminate the ability to talk about the worst attrocities in your history, you doom yourself to that a...
