Re: Do you enjoy Counterstrike or Vertigo more?

Vertigo has better level design with more memorable encounters instead of robots being scattered haphazardly around the map, but I don't like any of the new robots, either in a appearance or behavior--they look ugly, most of them do the same things other robots already did (do we really need another...

Re: Lou Guards vs Super Medium Hulks

I did some tests and the results confuse me, to say the least - they make no sense at all. First off, the player homing missile is just as good as it was in D1, if not better. In D1 it would take 6 homers to blow up a super hulk, in D2 it takes 5. That would suggest they've actually become stronger...

Re: Do you use an alternate soundtrack with Descent 2?

If you missed out on it, you should give it a shot today, it runs fine under DOSBox and most computers today are fast enough to emulate MW2 at 640x480 or higher.

Do you use an alternate soundtrack with Descent 2?

I love Descent 1's soundtrack, but I've never really enjoyed D2's either in MIDI form (there were far too few MIDIs and Dan Wentz's compositions weren't nearly as good as what he would write for FreeSpace) or on the CD (compressed, harsh, nasty production, and the music sounds like a bunch of indust...

Re: [WIP] Descent 2 custom HAM/gameplay mod

I was thinking of the GL, but in "flight sim" mode rather than "mouselook" mode, because Descent 3's mouselook is one of the worst implementations of mouselook I've ever seen. I might have to try Overload and see how that game handles it, because I didn't like Descent 3 very much...

Re: [WIP] Descent 2 custom HAM/gameplay mod

The problem with D2X-XL is how the engine handles sounds. You can't just use the .s11 and .s22 files because D2X-XL needs special external sounds for some reason.

[WIP] Descent 2 custom HAM/gameplay mod

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dI72FR_bRI https://www.sendspace.com/file/im2mzq Alpha download. Should work with either vanilla DOS Descent II, D2X-Rebirth, or D2X-Retro. Will not work with D2X-XL. After playing both Descent games through again on DOS recently, I felt like doing a subtle gameplay ...

Re: New PIG available for Descent 2!

In the DOS version of Descent II, the red doors common in fire levels appear to have a glowing white border around them in the closed frame, filling up the entire 64x64 wall. This border disappears when the door opens: http://i.imgur.com/oMG9Cfll.png I don't know if it's exclusive to software render...
