AFAIK - the international rules regarding credit card fraud is that you are only liable for the first $50 - maximum. Your credit card company should instantly return the transaction, and wipe any interest charged. If not, cancel your card - and get a new one from a company which has a better fraud p...

Low 5v rail.
My ancient A7V133 is reporting the following voltages:
VCore......1.75v +3.3.......3.49 +5.........4.48 +12........12.40 -12........-12.84 -5.........-5.51
These seem kida poor to me. The 5 volt rail in particular is identified by the BIOS as being undervolted - since it is over 10% low...

Hmmmm. I just cancelled my Prescott order, and went for a standard P4. Recent reports on the 'net indicate Prescott has a pipeline that may be 35 instructions deep!!! This will mean that using todays apps, at the release-speeds, Prescott will be slower than Pentium 4. The Prescott process is apparen...

Nah, I'm not crying. Feces Occurs. It is going to cost many, many, many billions more dollars before *any* kind of conventional wisdom is acquired about Mars, how to land there, what conditions are like on the ground, and how to successfully run long term missions there. If Opportunity lands success...

PlanetDescent highjacked by Whitehouse!
Press Release from the Whitehouse: Today, President George W. Bush announced his upcoming military plans for 2004. "We're gonna put the smackdown on them candyass Descent players. We plan to provide them with Shock & Awe ™ and then we're gonna go totally postal on 'em." A spok...

Shame the election result is most probably already decided. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3419775.stm Seems the Republicans are determined to turn America from the world's once premier democracy into a totalitarian state by subterfuge, brow-beating, chest-pounding, lies, corruption, and any ...

Nice quote Topher. One of my favourite movies: 2001. Mars is a pretty hostile environment in which to run a rover. There's no conventional wisdom about the place as yet. And there's still hope it can be revived. Remember: this is space exploration - and explorative missions have often failed in the ...

Dead Mail #2 has come back. I think it's safe to say that Kevin won't be completing 1.5 any time before my eyes are still good enough to play D3. Well worth the read. No maths involved (skip those bits). Explains why the USA needs to get to the moon, and monopolise the He3 market.

What somebody hasn't mentioned is that the PCB design and build quality of the RAM is a highly contributing factor to memory performance. Great RAM chips won't work well on a poorly designed/built PCB. I have no information about who makes the best PCBs, but given that all RAM comes from only about ...

No. Colour is detected by Cones. Black and white is detected by Rods. Rods and cones are the two types of light receptors in the Retina. Rods are very very good at working in low light levels, while cones react poorly in low light. In the human eye, the vast majority of receptors close to the centre...

Yeah - Samsung memory is found on many of the leading brands. I'd say Corsair was the most respected memory maker of recent times. Things to remember though - the RAS-CAS numbers of memory mean more than the name on the stick. SPD settings which are aggressive and headroom for pushing the RAM faster...

I have asked the same question many times - and I guess the answer is that Motherboard makers do not want to tield that space to GFx card makers. Often, RAM is hard to replace already - but massive heatsinks and fans would encroach on the Northbridge area - and round there it gets plenty hot already...

The new dual-GPU video card from Club3D is reviewd over at XBitLabs. If you were hoping for something that would push ATI-nVidia then you're going to be greatly disappointed. HTPC/digital media suggestions?
Hey peeps, I'm getting really keen on buying a box for the living room. Originally, I planned to build a kicka$$ HTPC box but it's gonna be too expensive. I'm torn between two options: 1) Dumb unit - all it'll do is stream content from a server PC running dedicated software. LAN or Wi-Fi. 2) Full PC...
