Now is this a USB host powered drive, AKA no power supply that goes with the drive. Because if it is I have seen that some laptops just don't supply enough power to power those things. Beyond that it does sound like its the drivers to me.

Try another USB cable.

If one works, you know its your comp.
If neither one works, its the drive or the enclosure.
