Re: Issues with Login using Firefox.
I suspect the fact that HTTPS is normally port 443, not 80 (that's regular HTTP) has something to do with this.

It almost sounds like Precision XOC is doing some tweaks to Windows to "make stuff run faster". Which are not safe tweaks.

It's faster at pitching... but felt familiar enough to me. The mouse limits in D1/D2 are the same as any other input method, but it does take some training not to overturn.

Re: Conversion Overload
I have a provisional release of a DLE update (1.12.31) that has an Overload export in the File->Convert menu. It can't edit Overload levels; it's just a one-way export into a format the Overload editor can use (once it's released, which should be soon; I was working off a pre-release version). Level...

Sort of sounds like "reboot", although does that work with the drone thing? They've been quiet for a while so I don't really know how much of the old premise still holds. If it's not a prequel you'd expect it to pick up at roughly the same place, maybe taking a different direction from the...

Revival raised half as much money on KS ($300k instead of $600k). Though I don't know how much funding went in from other sources. Their team is probably bigger now than Descendent Studios (not counting Little Orbit, whose impact hasn't really been seen yet), but earlier on they only had like five c...

Re: Matcen (robot maker) data doesn't always save properly
That is what I did. Specifically, it reads them the way D1/D2 (including Rebirth, not clear about XL) would, and if you later save the level, it writes them in a "compatible" format that should be read correctly by any version of Descent.

Re: Matcen (robot maker) data doesn't always save properly
OK, I think I see what the problem is - it's a combination of the RDL/RL2 file format being very misleading, and DLE trying to make sense out of the madness but doing so in a way that is inconsistent with D2's behavior. Should be fixable. I'll try to make a test build of DLE next week - if you know ...

Re: Can someone make an OpenGL renderer?
Most people do prefer complete control... the question is whether it's worth the cost - modern game engines are already pretty flexible. But it is a way to get certain kinds of experience that you might not otherwise get, finish or not. Particularly about software architecture.

Re: Can someone make an OpenGL renderer?
You sure it doesn't make more sense to build on top of an already-built engine (e.g. Unity, or UE4 if C++ is a must)? Starting from scratch is one of those things you only want to do if you absolutely have to, and for a small or one-man project it typically leads to never finishing.

For the 'other' category, as a rule of thumb, Unreal and Half-Life in my book are NOT old-school. Nor is anything else that is a 'clone' of those or more advanced. What are your criteria then? All three of the Serious Sam games are newer than both of those examples; if the cutoff is 1997 or earlier...

What's going on is kind of funny; yes, it is flagged as immune to matter, but the code for the "weak spot" invulnerability mode ignores that flag so it doesn't actually have any effect. P.S. Although the "non-matter" theory is also sort of true. Immune-to-matter bosses do indeed ...

You kind of need both to avoid frustration. Without the cloak you won't have an easy time getting directly behind it, and without invulnerability you won't be able to get close enough for the missile to hit before it turns around. Edit: Well, I guess you could do kamikaze runs. That would stretch ou...

objp->shields = (objp->shields * (abs(Current_level_num)+7))/8; Current_level_num presumably starts at 1 so it has the standard shield count on the first level. In this case we want to start that from 19. For 19 the multiplier is (19+7)/8 = 26/8 So if you give the thief 8/26 the normal shield count...

1) It depends on the model and probably requires you have a gaming mouse. I'm using a Logitech G700 which has software to manage that. The one I use at work does not. 4) Yes, with enough time to memorize the levels. Ace I might be able to wing it, depending on the mission - but Insane probably does ...

1) Mouse sensitivity is 3 notches above the middle - both axes have equal sensitivity. I'm running on 1600 DPI, though I have been considering experimenting with switching on the fly.
