Re: Helicopter WIP

On a practical note (if you made a real heli like that) the center of mass is too far ahead of the main rotor. It would have an amazing tendancy to tip over forwards.
If you moved the rotor pylonn to over the 'wings' it would be a lot more realistic.

From the modelling side, it's looking good.

Does that type of tree grow natively down here? If so, I want one....

I really like this. Maybe on the second one a bit of the "glow" on the bottom of the tree trunk, like the first one.

@Everyone Well that's provided me with a good half-hours reading right there. Thanks guys. Let me summarise what you're saying: 1) You can plan things, and it is probably a good idea, but sometimes it's OK just to build from scratch. 2) Put enemy placements in logical areas, but don't make it monoto...

The Design of Descent Levels

Work on DEEP Space is reaching an interesting stage, where coding is slowly giving way to modelling and level-creation. As part of this I'm having to spend some time making levels. I have issues planning and developing these levels, so I thought I'd ask some of the experts over here. So, a few quest...

Numbers

Decimal is base 10, and goes from 0 to 9
Octal is base 8, and goes from 0 to 7
Binary is base 2, and goes from 1 to 2
A tally chart is base 1, and you have as longer string as number you have
But what is base 0? Infinities?

Descent Controller Concept

I haven't yet figured out the best controller for descent-like games (ie retrovirus, descent, DEEP Space, Forsaken etc) My reasoning is this: 1) Keys give a rough movement, making it harder to aim. While I have grown used to this I still do find it a little annoying 2) Joysticks never have enough bu...

Sergeant Thorne, you mention: Oh man... menacing, high-detail, shiny, and complex... I disagree with complex, at least for levels. I discovered, while making levels for DEEP Space (my descent clone), that if you give too much detail (ie pipes and things) to a level, then it becomes hard to navigate ...

The HUD seems to be what is done in Blender3D already. Hit a button, type the function you want, hit enter. I do agree that it is much better than searching through endless menu's.
Can you tell me it's approx memory usage with nothing open (ie, booted and logged on)?

Jump 2 left, 4 forwards
Activate hyperdrive.

And wouldn't it be:
:E + :E
Because if it was:
:E ^2
(X^2)
then the progression of numbers would be:
0000000
or maybe
1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1
possibly
-1,1,1,1,1,1,1
or
-2, 4, 16...

It would be impossible for the mods to win if it was squared.
