Re: Favorite D2 Single-Player Campaigns
Levels 2, 3 and 5 struck me as the hardest, but other than that I'd say the difficulty was pretty evened out.

Yeah, "Against Thee Wickedly" is a sweet level, probably the best Romero-made official level. And hard as hell too, but I think I've managed it several times. I only play Doom on UV, quite unlike Descent

Re: Favorite D2 Single-Player Campaigns
Well, many of the secrets are counter-intuitive and overall too hard. Guess that's one of the co-op gimmicks. EDIT: Ok, completed The Apocalyptic Factor. Damn, I loved every bit of it. Every single bit. Except for all those overly had secrets, that it, haha. Even the story was a nice change, compare...

I love guided missiles for bosses... Haha yeah, they kinda give you that feeling of impunity, now don't they :) Ok, I'm in level 13. Yet another amazing "Neo-Sol" level, showing how D2 graphical content should have been used to make D1 better. Beautiful stuff. I'd kill to have some Darkho...

And you were right about that level 12 boss... the worst thing about him is that I still can't figure out what kinds of damage he takes. It seems to me like he takes kinetic weapons anywhere, while energy weapons only work on his back O_o EDIT Ok, got him. Turns out he only took stuff in his behind....

Re: Favorite D2 Single-Player Campaigns
I'm on level 11 now. Once again I have to stress the aesthetic genius of most of these levels. Lakshmi Outpost was almost exclusively Solar System themed. with complementary D2 textures that fit the taste perfectly. I'd call that theme "Neo Sol". And I'm increasingly convinced to consider ...

Re: D1 final boss vs D2 final boss.
Just keep in mind AF was a more coop-oriented mission, though (although if that's the case, then why the massive briefing you would only get to read in single player? Not that I didn't like the story, but...). I know you want D1.5 to be a challenge and I don't blame you for that, but did you want i...

Yeah, and you did a great job!
BTW, what mission predates The Bahagad Outbreak? I got the impression from some briefings that there's a prequel. I know that The Lost Levels postdate TBO, but there also seems to be something before it.

But I find it easier to place an overly-vibrant texture in an isolated cube behind a fan, as if it's some sort of radioactive chemical or whatnot. Yeah, like D1 level 1! I'm playing the Apocalyptic Factor campaign at the moment. The boss from Level 5 was so hard I had to check his HP, it's 6500 actually. I have to add a honorable mention about The Bahagad Outbreak. Just played through it and many if not most level designs are Vertigo-quality or even higher. Playing quite a bit of D1 and D2 on a daily basis, I have made some observations regarding the textures that appear in both these games, and what relationships they have with each other. I'm not really a D2 guy, mind you! I just acknowledged that D1 was much more difficult. And harder games are more fun games. I had played D1 for a good ten years before I finally picked up D2. Well, the only weapons I've caught myslef using in D2 are super lasers and gauss. Omega too, occasionally, against those pesky spawn. Helix is good on bosses thanks to its high DPS. But other primaries lie inert in my playstyle. Maybe I should mix things up a bit O_o

I mean Descent 2 had a demo of 3 levels, therefore Parallax wanted to show off as much new stuff as they could in 3 levels. So after those three levels you already have a lot of new and powerful stuff that got shown off. You also see in Counterstrike that the first three levels contain a lot more c...

As for the ammo rack: agreed, it's a strong powerup. We had to complete the whole freakin' Descent 1 with a cap of 20/10/10/5/5. The rack doubles the carrying capacity, so the amount of ordnance one can carry is slightly too convenient. And the 20 Shakers cap? Wtf??? Shakers are bigger than both Meg...

This would be useful to get a score registered after the end of the game.
Which reminds me: could you make it so that the game registers your score from Vertigo in the high scores table? It would make any run-through much more satisfying.

Well, D1,5 has its own HAM file with all the weapon tweaks (mostly returning the D1 weapons to their original powers and speeds). It also has its own .S11 and .S22 files. Pumo is also making another .PIG palette, which it'll also make use of. I was thinking it would need a separate directory to play...

I actually loved the briefings, bot the introductory conversation in D1 and the inter-level mini-briefings. D1,5 is definitely gonna have those. D2 sorely lacked those briefings in my opinion, they provide nice ambience, and that's one of the things at which D1 beats D2. And I do have the briefing e...

The problem is the secret level still won't act like a D1 secret level. You'll arrive there with all the keys, for one thing. And if you die on the secret level, just like in D2, you'll return to the base level -- except, if the base level is not available because you blew it up, you'll get forward...
