There are two types of Descent players; those who know what UES is and those that don't. ;) UES, or Ultra Earth-Shaker, was basically a legend in the days of D2... the most well-known Shaker level out there. (Gigadeath, or at least its 2 and 4 incarnations, was also popular, but not so much.) The fa...

Well, a game running at 30 is slightly dodgy, but I do it enough that I don't mind it too much. Once you start pulling 60 it's pretty neat though. And the TV is weird. :] It really runs at 50 fps interlaced, which means that while it only fully refreshes 25 times a second it looks like it does more ...

Hmm... what version were you using - SDL or GL? SDL is generally going to be slower unless you have a super-fast computer. (Although I would have thought an Athlon 1700 would qualify.) In addition, what kind of video card do you have? If it's really old and you're trying to run the GL version that m...

I get that problem as well. Sometimes you can fix it, sometimes you can't. In my case, as far as I know, you can't, except for a handful of extreme measures.

It wasn't my favourite though. :) Too little work for your kills.

Ah, understood. More or less. :) I still haven't fully come to grips with the intricacies of networking, but I get the idea... A client/server system would probably not hurt, especially if it was possible to keep the damage handling the same as it is now, just with everything routed through a server...

Well said Merl. Regarding the eye-candy thing, I (or at least I think it was I) only said that because it's what many people want. As good as the game might be otherwise, if it has horrible visuals you're going to be the only one that wants it. :) But it's not hard to do better visuals and keep in t...

D3 CTF was actually fun... the rest of it was a waste of time compared to what it used to be like. I do, just barely, have to put my vote in for D2 over D1 though. The molasses feel of the non-augmented player ship is quite a minus, but all the new cool stuff made up for it in my opinion. (The other...

I'm one of those people who actually plays games on a computer with five-year-old technology, but I assumed I was in the minority as I don't actually know anyone with a slower computer. Minerva doesn't stir up a negative response from me, oddly enough. Probably because it's been about three years since I last played it anyway.

Very memorable level though. Especially the way quad lasers and super lasers tended to congregate to insane proportions in that lower hallway.

Some good points there MD-1224, and in theory I agree with you... however in practice I can't, because of one little problem with it; a lot of those points seem to assume we're looking at another Descent game with the familiar weapons, but that won't be the case. It can be done Ferno - games can be pushed out to work decently for high-ish pings and not penalise those 'LPB' guys the rest of us so fondly hate. ;) In my opinion if it handles 400 pings -decently-, and sub-250 pings fairly well, it should pass. Higher than 400 is a little hard to compensate for. ...

Descent really doesn't have enough to go off. The storyline started in 1994 for D1 was pretty lame and a little clunky when you get into it.
