Re: Operation - Coyote

As a relative newcomer with only one mission under my belt and a second underway, I'd be happy to help you figure out more of the tricks if you'd like a second opinion on something. As an avid single-player Descenter, I can also test some of the upper difficulties (at least Hotshot and Ace) if you n...

Re: Operation - Coyote

Well, I'm definitely a little confused, because it seems like you announced two projects in a very short amount of time. Neither one sounds particularly easy for someone who admitted they still had to get used to the programs (maybe I'm not the best one to talk, but I do know my way around DLE for t...

Nope, as soon as I press Enter, the pop-up is only there for a split second before the entire program closes down. No text appears in the box so I can't even get the chance to read it by repeating the steps over and over. Very strange.

Re: best looking Vertigo Bot?

The SPIKE was pretty nice as something that looked kind of like a miniboss, but in a smaller package to make it harder to spot. I ended up voting for it, but most of the other robots looked great and very creative (except maybe the Sniper NG, since it's practically an ITSC clone). If I didn't vote f...

Re: Descent 2 mission in the works - Mod and misc help wante

Downloaded the bundle Krom uploaded, but I think I'm still missing something since at least Polytron and Polyview get stuck on the splash screen. I don't know if I'm missing a Virtual Machine (suggested by Enzo, since my laptop is a 32-bit Vista rather than an XP) or some other program to work with ...

Descent 2 mission in the works - Mod and misc help wanted

(Sorry in advance for such a long post... There's a lot of basic/not-so-basic info I felt I had to give on this idea! :P) After taking a bit of a break following the release of "The Outer Reaches," I started getting a lot of ideas for my second mission. It's much bigger with concepts for r...

Re: Which robot has the creepiest sound?

Yay rank inflation! :P Honestly, I know the Bulk Destroyer itself isn't terrifying. But like I said, the only reason I ever freak out when I hear one is because I now associate the sound more with the Warlord from TEW. So when I hear that sound now, it's the Warlord that springs to mind and my insti...

Re: Which robot has the creepiest sound?

The Thief's sound effect still does a great job of freaking me out, especially since it's not something that stands out all that much unless it's close to dead silent otherwise. Hearing that sound effect on other robots in Descent 2 (namely the mini-reactor and the Medium Lifter) has really thrown o...

Re: Layout preview of my first level ever

I definitely got the "Descent 1.5" vibe from this level, so great job with the architecture considering it is your first level. Some of the puzzles also seemed really well thought-out, and I especially thought the yellow key puzzle was very creative. I'd have to agree that the texture sche...

Re: Dle-xp's mine view screen is completely white

This happened to me on some of the recent versions a few weeks back, so when I got a response in the bug tracker, Diedel suggested opening the file DLE.ini and changing "EnableQuickSelection=1" to "EnableQuickSelection=0." I can't figure out why exactly, but that's worked for me ...

Re: Robot model for the PIG gets replaced by a TEW robot

What editor did you use? I think a few versions of DLE-XP have accidentally copied .HXM files if you view a level that contains them, then close it down and start a new file.

I'm not sure if this still applies to the most recent versions, but I'll add it to the bug tracker if I find out it does.

I'm thinking Brimspark is more of a reference to "fire and brimstone" than having been chosen simply because it sounds like Bismarck. ;) The "spiral" part of Limefrost Spiral might be referencing a spiral galaxy, though that could mean the name stemmed from a lack of research... ...

Huh, that's the second time I've heard that one. I was just taking a shot in the dark with that one, since some of the other "alien" names at the end of Counterstrike seem to have a hidden meaning. I'd also vote for "Morabi Milk Mine" as the silliest; right off the bat,...

Re: What do you think D1 beats D2 at?

I really liked a lot of the new robots and graphics in Descent 2; the unpredictability the improved AI lent itself to was a great way to keep things interesting for me (yes, I even like the addition of the thief). But like just about everyone else, I didn't like the balance issues which came from ne...

A bit of an experiment for me, because unfortunately, I haven't really done a lot of multiplayer to date. Just released what should be the final update to the set, version 1.1. Exit sequences have been added; although the reactors do not display properly on the automap, there are no problems otherwise, so I'd consider this mission complete and no longer just a beta. Version 0.9.03 has just been posted. Re: The Outer Reaches - Beta ready, help wanted

Well, the main reason I was worried about cheapness was because half the grates surrounding the boss room are only see-through and fire-through from the outside. I could see how a player might just camp out there and fire until the boss is dead, so I was debating changing at least those textures to ...

Actually, these are more or less my first levels for any Descent game. Well, the three .RDL files all have file names of eight letters or less, with no spaces or special characters, but the .HOG and .MSN were ten letters each.
