Re: New singleplayer set in progress
Here are a few screenshots of level 4 and 5 -- not quite as extensive as the pics I took of the first three, 'cause the maps are long with more intense fights.... but I think they'll give you some idea of who's coming back, a couple someones who you might not have seen in a while :) https://www.drop...

He pops on to the Overload discord from time to time.
Don't get to talk to him as much as I'd like, though, 'cause his timezone is just about the opposite of my own.
You're in Europe, though-- if you hung around there, you'd probably have a better chance.

Neat, I'm on level... 18.... of that right now (but I also betatested, so I've played through the rest of them, just in a slightly unfinished state). Mostly interested to see where the briefings are going. Certainly seems to me that it strikes that balance between feeling like it's not pulling its p...

I've got some screenshots together for levels 1-3 -- didn't have time to get to the other two before work this morning. And if I can get the embedding to work I'll share them. New singleplayer set in progress
So I dug up some old D2X-XL maps from one of my old laptops and, surprisingly, not all of them were garbage. Over the past week I've taken the best five of them (one of which has been released before) and compiled them into a little set. I've got the maps in pretty much working order, and barring an...

Re: I improvised this thread
So I picked up Archetype Gojira (the new one with the octave pedals) on sale, and it sounds pretty neat. This track was a bit challenging to mix, 'cause out of the six or seven instruments I used there's only one that I'd ever used before. For the guitar, I used both of the plugin's distortion flavo...

Yup
Never was interested in going there... this community seems like it had a penchant for schisms. Gotta choose your company with some care.
DMDB is/was/hopefully will be again the Descent Mission Database. Not the best-organized site in the world but it was nice to have it all in one place.

That's... one way to look at it I guess The thinking that went into it was more like two verses, three choruses, and one bridge, with a bunch of little solos sprinkled in between and also in mid-verse. :D I guess that is a little bit weird now that I say it out loud XD I use FL studio 20 for pretty ...

Yeah it's certainly not the same as playing through an amp but my amp's a pretty cheap crappy one anyway :D I'm saving for some better gear but in the meantime this lets me get some much nicer tone when I want it, and the $200 CAD price is more than covered by some extra pay I got for doing an inter...

I decided to go ahead and buy the Archetype 'cause even if I don't use it often it's still the best-sounding digital amp I've heard.
Have been working on a new track with it today... so maybe I'll put that up here when it's done.

Analysis of Descent 2's difficulty styles
I've been thinking about game design lately, and I got to thinking about what makes Descent 2 my favourite campaign in the original series, and realizing that part of that is because when I've played the game on high difficulty levels, each of the six planets presents its own variety of challenge ar...

Like those little drum patterns. Somewhat intricate yet unobtrusive.
Whole thing feels kinda underwater, like, dreamy.
Well... at least, I'd have to assume that's dreamy. For anyone who doesn't usually dream about killing antelope with his bare teeth and claws.

Yup, playing around with buttons was how I figured out most of it too
A lot like teaching yourself a musical instrument in that way -- you have to play around with everything and understand why it's there, you can't just focus on practicing the concepts that were easy at the beginning.

The first 20 seconds or so for some reason remind me of the lo-fi creepy drones from Doom 64.
The rest is... not like that... but it's still got a sense of real fun. Especially with those strange beastly sorta speaking voices.

Well, a mix of composing and jamming for the tracks in here. It's trying to be a jam, but old instincts die hard :) And that's probably okay. So I took some time on Monday to improvise a real... well, something... using the amp sim. It still felt appreciably different from playing it through a r...

Yeah, that's how it goes. I have a mode that reduces latency to near-zero but it comes with other problems that seem to be something specific about this system. Thanks! I might give that a look if I can come up with something for it.
