What do you think of this?

Post by Robo »

I've been trying to create something decent for a long time, no such luck sadly, but I'd like to know what you think of this:

I'd put a bit more variation in the trails or whatever they are, subdue the lens flare a lot, and save it so there isn't a massive amount of jpg compression everywhere.

I like the concept though.

I don't like it.

It's been done before, the space, stars.. everything. Try something new. No offence, it's good solid work, however it's just been done before.

Suggestions: (BTW good work)

Sharpen foreground.. out of focus detracts.
Do something with the ring. Like go for galaxy or something, right now i tlikks *looks like rainbow.
Lens flare need less glow, more rings, lens artifacts etc
Might want to do something hidden in it like in the stars, y'know make it something differnet.

Thanks for the comments. They were helpful. Image

I've decided to scrap the rings and go with a nebula sort of look. Trouble is, they are a bugger to draw Image

I've probably made it worse, but here is the newest version:

Try finding some NASA images of nebulas and toying with those.

New one looks good, but I still think you should sharpen the foreground, and also the stars are only on the right hand side of the sky. I know there's supposed to be clouds on the left, but I think it would look better if they extended all the way across.

The foreground is blurred because it (the terrain and the trees) was done in 3ds Max. The trees are not very good and look quite... stupid... when sharp Image

Extend those stars? Okay, I'll try that.

I'll have another shot at the foreground later Image

The blurriness of the foreground is really distracting. It makes it look like it exists behind the planets and stars because that's simply how blurriness works - things in the distance generally appear blurry, not things close to us.

Yeah - Those Nebula additions create the illusion your staring through clouds on one side into a bright day, and the other side onto a starry night. It looks more like a swallowing effect rather than a nebulas traditional outward-style. And the planets are way too close, pictures and estimates of the distances between moons such as Io, Ganymede to the planet Jupiter are usually a lot further out.

I'd like to say that I really like the first one, with the exception of the focus-grabbing bright spot of white light towards the bottom.

Descent1 robot Loop?

Post by BUBBALOU »

Tell me if this or not, if I'm not mistaken that is a loop from a Descent 1 robot, or maybe it was descent 2..

http://music.walmart.com/m/000/54/29/18 ... 01.011.mp3 Only link I could find without tons of Popups

Band : Bass Addiciton
Album : Chemical Dependency (1999)
Song : Bass From the Bottom

If so they should rename it to "Bass from the Mines"

the guitar sequences in the background at the beginning of the song are from:

White Zombie: Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls.

i can tell you that part, but ill have to listen to the D1 and D2 soundtracks again

Not a robot, but it sounds like one of the soundtracks. The level 18 track sounds similar, and level 1 does a little too.

That's a pretty decent snippet, actually.

Like Mr. P says: it doesn't sound like a robot. Only thing it reminds me of is this, throughout but mainly at the end (3:42 and on). It's a near perfect match.

Yeah, that's definitely like one of the Descent 2 tracks. Sans the drums, the squeaky techno instrument is playing the exact same riff.

Yep that's it I knew it was from something Descent 1 related.
Just could not put my finger on it, I should have trolled through my Descent PSX rips.

I would think.. someone in the band played DESCENT!

If you like BASS! or need something to test out your Klipsch Pro Media's this qualifies. Tha's what I got it for it was the song "In Bass City" that caught my attention. The song I above was just an easter egg.

Kind of reminds me of the sound in the song Even in Death by Evanescence. If that's the sound you're referring to.

i like the first one better, maybe coz it's more sparse, and that's what space is more like (very uncluttered), the thin rings work great with that. but the clouds on teh other one do look pretty good.

the images are awesome Robo!

The song does sound like it'd be cool to play while flying a pyro but I don't notice andyhing that sounds that similar to a robot sound.
