I see Microsoft advertizing their new explorer, and I kinda wonder why.

Why is the internet browser market so important to them that they're spending all that money on TV spots?

Ah the memories.

Microsoft advertises for IE probably for the same reason Google advertises Chrome. It's all about default search engine and plugging other online services. For instance, Google also pays a lot of money to Mozilla to be Firefox's default search engine.
