What happens in multiplayer D3? Vortex is turned off, turn off the servers during the game. No one knows how to play together without the Vortex?

Since PXO died there hasn't been a place where people meet except IRC/KALI and Vortex. So yeah you have to use Vortex (most popular place to meet I think) to find games.

You can still get into chats via several web interfaces, MIRC, Trillian, and so on.
