Post by pattim »

I have the commercial disks, but can't find where to put the data files (hog/pig/etc.), or if there are (upgraded/downloaded) files out there somewhere already.

EDIT: I found some relevant posts here, but they seem to be windows-centric or else linux/wine, whereas the dx2-xl I downloaded from the SuSE repo is linux native.

I found that - but it seems only partial, at least for linux. For instance in the table giving where the files reside, it seems to suggest a folder named \"Descent 2\" - but in the list of folders to create, there isn't anything named \"Descent 2\"

I don't know anything about the Linux install.

Though if you really want help from someone in regards to this problem.
Diedel or even the D2X-XL Linux users them selfs can help you over at the official forum.

Please read here and here for more info.

Thanks. :)

All voluntary development projects like this come down to someone deciding to actually do the work. People have limited time, limited interests etc. I'd wager the Freespace SCP has more resources than D2X-XL, which makes it easier for them to put something like that together.

That said D2X-XL may get an installer one day, but it's best not to hold your breath - Diedel is already flat out during the time he has to work on it in making the game better - installers aren't so high on his priority list...

I think the \"Descent 2\" folder would be the main folder, and all the other folders would go in there. (I'm not sure though, I've never used Linux.)
