I've seen plenty of security videos of convenience store clerks thwarting armed robberies with everyday objects or nothing at all. It may be more common than we think. I'll withhold judgement until I see a comparative study.

I've seen combat experts state that one of the best (albeit last-resort) ways to deal with an active shooter situation is just to start throwing ★■◆● at them. Even a trained shooter isn't going to be able to hit much if they have desk chairs and paperweights being chucked at their head.

Or, we can be smart about the level of armament needed at all levels of society and in different regions. Gun policy is not a one size fits all outfit, but what we have right now is a bad fit for a lot of people.
