seriously, if this doesn't chill you, you have NO regard for the US Constitution nor the principles upon which this nation is founded. I apologize, by the way, for what seems like a post dump in the past 24 hours, but the totality of the current risk to our nation is severe enough to warrant it. But, thank goodness we didn't have that e-mail server lady running things......

I think anybody has the right to tell the media to shut up and listen for a change, there is no threat to the constitution until something becomes law, that inhibits the free press.

Beyond that…the hostility from both parties is shameful. (Whitehouse and press…not R & D although there is plenty of shame there as well)

except that was not what he said. He said the media is the OPPOSITION to the Trump admin and that since they won the election, the press has no right to keep doing its job. Sad excuse making on your part. This is a key adviser to the POTUS publicly pissing on the 1st Amendment. When do the 2nd, or 5th become annoying to them?

Looks to me like the intended recipient of his message are his acolytes. He's being seen punching the old "liberal media" in the mouth. "Listen to us, not them." It's not new, but it is more extreme.

Bannon's the scary part of this Trump experiment, IMO. Pence is the ultra-conservative that knows a bit about government, and is probably making the trains run on time. A lot of his priorities will be addressed. That's all bad enough, and will likely lead to some level of misery in the world. But it's Bannon and his support of nationalist movements worldwide that will likely lead to war.

what, exactly, is your intellectual intent of posting a completely irrelevant article? I mean, that was around limiting a single newspaper from campaign access. Bannon is suggesting that the entire body of the press 'shut up' because 'we won the election'. The right of the Press not to be made or even pressured to 'shut up' at any point is so fundamental the founders placed it at the first position in the Bill of Rights. Are you ok with this, or just wishing to smokescreen the issue being discussed for some reason?

Press relations have always been difficult in the past, not too concerned about the mouth flapping just yet. Keeping an eye out is a good thing, creating more drama isn't worth it IMHO.

press relations and total supression are WAY different, as the article pointed out. For Bannon to support the latter indicates are REAL serious problem.
I'd agree, keep an eye on it, but alerting the public to the attitude is not, to my mind, the least bit alarmist.

Perhaps you should read this before making anymore dumb comments:

https://news.grabien.com/story-why-it-w ... illing-pre
When Fox News's State Department correspondent, James Rosen, reported accurate information about North Korea leaked by a member of the Obama State Department, Eric Holder ordered his movements to be tracked, his phone records seized, and went "judge shopping" until he found one willing to grant such a warrant without telling Rosen himself. Holder even told Google to not notify Rosen that the government was monitoring his email.
And it wasn't just Fox News. The New York Times's James Risen was targeted for almost the entirety of Obama's two terms. His crime? Reporting accurate information the Obama Administration didn't want reported. "
So as you can see slick, you conveniently overlook what Obama actually did compared to what Trump is suggesting.

And this from a left-leaning site.

Also slick, don't forget the rocky relationship between both of the Clintons and the press.

hell, the press is supposed to be adversarial. What Holder did was wrong, and although I don't recall either being here, or at least hearing it here, I made that plain at the time. Two wrongs never WILL make a right. I hear dancing, and equivocation. Read Bannon's words again. I stand by my original assertion: this should alert every American who cares about the Constitution.

To elaborate a bit on my comment...
But there’s a third possibility, one that offers a unified, coherent explanation for some of the apparent contradictions in Trump’s foreign-policy views. Trump and some of his advisors (most notably Stephen Bannon) may be operating from a broad, Huntingtonian “clash of civilizations” framework that informs both their aversion to multiculturalism at home and their identification of friends and foes abroad. In this essentially cultural, borderline racialist worldview, the (mostly white) Judeo-Christian world is under siege from various “other” forces, especially Muslims. From this perspective, the ideal allies are not liberals who prize tolerance, diversity, and an open society, but rather hard-core blood-and-soil nationalists who like walls, borders, strong leaders, the suppression or marginalization of anyone who’s different (including atheists and gay people, of course) and the promotion of a narrow and fairly traditional set of cultural values.

For people who see the world this way, Putin is a natural ally. He declares Mother Russia to be the main defender of Christianity and he likes to stress the dangers from Islam. European leaders like Marine Le Pen of France, Nigel Farage of Great Britain, and Geert Wilders of the Netherlands are Trump’s kind of people, too, and on this dimension so are the right-wingers in the Israeli government. And if Islam is the real source of danger, and we are in the middle of a decades-long clash of civilizations, who cares about the balance of power in Asia?

The problem with this way of thinking, as I wrote back when The Clash of Civilizations first appeared, is that it rests on a fundamental misreading of world politics. “Civilizations” are not political entities; they do not have agency and do not in fact act. For good or ill, states still drive most of world politics, and clashes within Huntington’s various “civilizations” are still more frequent and intense than clashes between them. Moreover, seeing the future as a vast contest between abstract cultural groupings is a self-fulfilling prophecy: If we assume the adherents of different religions or cultural groups are our sworn enemies, we are likely to act in ways that will make that a reality.

Well that’s one persons spin on it, but I have always been under the impression that a “clash of civilizations” was really about incompatible ideas, and not groups per se.

I have always seen it as more ideas that might or not be actually the counterparties actual thinking, as the author of that piece suggests. I do see their point about the reality that clashes within are more frequent and even generally more violent than from without a cultural/ethnic/religious boundry. As you say, everyone can make their own set of opinions around this.

The first one is true, I can attest to that one. The third one was originally a Bush lie, he said it first AND was responsible for starting the whole mess in the first place, so Obama can't take all the blame. The Trump lies are multiplying as we speak, even as he keeps calling them "alternative truths" to cover them up.

Heh.

Trump lies, sure- but so did Obama...and the press just repeated Obama's lies as truth.

Breaking News: Obama is no longer President. Deflecting on the here and now with 'well he did......' is really damned weak.

now, as a rule I barely rate Kos much above Breitbart, but since this was confirmed by other reports, and the twitter feed essentially admits to the changes, and gives the reasoning, I went with this just to drop the picture of Bannon in his shorts. I'd laugh were this crap not so damned serious.
