Dictatorship

Look, I am an administrator of many years of game servers in different games.
Maybe D:U can make a good game. But now the team Descendent Studios absolutely do not know how to talk to the players... It's just surprising.
How these people want to make a multiplayer game if they don't know how to communicate with the network players?

Moved this from E&C, but can't imagine where it's coming from.

Me neither... if you want us to take you seriously Sigma you'll have to explain exactly what happened to convince you of this.
Otherwise it sounds like the same pre-conceived notion you seemed to have before you even talked to any of them the first time.

I've found them to be very open to discussion about anything at all, even something as silly which of their team members would be the best to eat. :P It's refreshing to see a team that's not afraid to act like players of their own game.
That gives me a lot more confidence that they're making something they would want to play themselves.

The simple answer.
They talk to me as the chief of a subordinate. I really want to f*ck them in the mouth and then shoot them in the head.
These people do not understand with whom they talk.
These people are definitely not descenters...
They are ordinary simple businessmen.
In my opinion.

Alter-Fox, just an example. If I say that you're an idiot, would you be offended? No. Because we are a family. While they are outsiders who do not understand the philosophy of the Descent.

that might be the whole problem in a nutshell.
These people do not understand with whom they talk.
or maybe, just maybe, they understand that last part about what you really want.

Yeah, I guess I'm too used to speak the language of the players multiplayer shooters....
For forums, it is not the most appropriate style of conversation.
Thank you, Slick, you've become a lightning rod :)

The thing about kickstarters is this: you are not an investor. You are not obligated a say in anything, you are only guaranteed your kicstarter reward.

It, like any other corporation, is a dictatorship, and that's the ideal scenario; a kickstarter could just sit there doing nothing once funded. You are not even a subject - you have a choice in not dealing with them.

I think sigma is upset because he showed up on the D:U forums cussing up a storm, and they're like "abusive language removed", and to him that's a sign of a dictatorship.

I don't know what he was expecting. Maybe for them to run their site like E&C?

More like he's a native russian speaker, Lothar, and his translations didn't pan out as well as he thought. It's hard to determine what a non-native english speaker really is saying, so a little more patience is needed.

Sergeant, I tell you frankly. They are doing business project, which should be similar to the Descent. They just want money.
I'm willing to pay, for example, $ 100 for a very good game... But these bitches trying to manipulate me. This is a very bad sign.

Isaac, you see that representatives of DS are silent about this?

But these freaks never make me obey.

Well, I'd assume they did something to you. I want to know exactly what they did. Let me tell you, the thing I hate the most on forums are moderators that act like they're kings, when in truth they're actually digital janitors. I mod moderators on different sites and I set strict rules against censorship, because the first amendment and the rest of the U.S. Constitution should be more than something that regulates government, but a standard we hold ourselves to. And if these guys are the assholes you say they are I want to know and I want some kind of proof.

Intonation, my friend, intonation.

I can not fully explain.... I can only say that they are communicating with me as in the US totalitarian corporate style. If a person starts to talk to me as they, for example, in Moscow, I immediately hit him. It's hard to explain.

Yes, you're right. The game is not released yet, but in fact it has already downed pilot... I can buy the game only once. If they are looking for fanatics who have pockets full of money, let them continue to search.

Very little chance that I'll be playing in D:U. Unfortunately. I do not know what a miracle they need to do to correct the situation.

It sounds like it might be on Linux and Mac actually... I know UE4 supports both natively and I remember them saying somewhere that they did want to support as many platforms as they could.

In fact it was clearly stated on both the KS campaign and the forums that there will be full Linux and Mac support, as it uses UE4 as Alter said.

You know what they dare to ban me on their website?
You can always write me a private message if you have any questions.
They generally do not tolerate free communication
I've actually already indifferent to this project...

Alter-Fox & Pumo, that's good news. Of course I have my suspicions. If they say they're going to try for "all" platforms while promoting their kick starter campaign, it could be get more support for their funding. In other words, I'll believe it when I see it. But thanks for your replies, both of you.

They banned you? What a bunch of cock suckers. Any mod that's too lazy to voice their opinions and resort to lazily banning to solve problems, is the worst kind of moderator. I hate that ★■◆●. Let me tell you, I have NEVER banned a user in my life. Instead I tell my users what could happen to the forum if they continue their behavior and give them their own choice on what to do. Users always improve if you allow them to. I even ask them to amend their own posts instead of doing it myself because I know how rude it is for me to do it. They always comply.

Thanks, Sigma. The guys that banned you can go suck a dick.

What makes you think they didn't voice their opinions? Sigma hasn't exactly been forthcoming with details. (Remember, they don't read this board; dunk came over for a few days late in the kickstarter, but he doesn't hang out here.)

The one thing I know for sure is he made a profanity-laden post, which is explicitly against their published guidelines. As pure speculation on my part: I'm guessing one of their moderators sent sigma a PM kindly asking him not to flagrantly violate the guidelines, he found it offensive to be asked not to cuss up a storm ("They talk to me as the chief of a subordinate" ... "they are communicating with me as in the US totalitarian corporate style"), and he replied in a completely inappropriate manner ("I really want to f*ck them in the mouth and then shoot them in the head" -- if he said that publicly here, I'd imagine what he said privately to them wouldn't be any more tame.) As is their stated policy, when "sometimes people decide they don't want to follow these rules" and they choose not to be one who "takes personal responsibility, apologizes, and works to restore a healthy community feel", the result is a 24-hour ban.

For what it's worth, I've found their moderators to be completely reasonable. I had an altercation with someone else in their forum, and their moderators communicated clearly with me about it, we agreed on what I would do differently going forward, and that was the end of it.

Yeah, we're not getting the whole story, it seems, but even if what you speculate is true, Lothar, it doesn't improve my view of their behavior.

24 hours for using the f word? What, does their forum not **** out the cussing like on this forum? If it does, that's stupid rule.

I'll tell you one thing, Sigma might be a racists cussing propaganda brainwashed alcoholic jerk, but he's a great addition to any online community because he's ★■◆●ing hilarious.

You ban for doxxing, death threats, or anything else that borders on criminal activity. Banning for anything else is just rude.

Again, I'd like to hear the whole story, but I'm quite sure they'd ban me for asking about this...

Issac, and sigma.

Point blank. you're acting childishly. Just because you're on a forum/internet, does NOT Give you the right to say whatever you think, however you think. You are a guest on their site.

Their site, their rules.

That's the way it is. You come to my house and act like that and use language like that, I WILL show you the door and it will be for longer than a mere 24 hours.

Knock it off.

Isaac wrote:24 hours for using the f word?
No.

24 hours for, after being asked not to use the F word and various other swear words, choosing to escalate the confrontation with the moderators instead of choosing to say "OK, I'll abide by your published rules on the forum you own".

They're not your babysitters. Their job is to keep their community from becoming toxic, not to cater to your personal whims in order to keep you around. So they have a "lightweight ban" for anyone who's both exhibiting toxic behavior, and unwilling to change it when asked politely. If you go on the forum and are like "f-bomb" and they're like "hey, no" and you're like "oh, OK, keepin' it PG from here on out" your'e fine. If you go on the forum and are like "f-bomb s-bomb c-bomb racism anger" and they're like "hey no" and you're like "f-bomb threat of violence f-bomb" you're banned. The fact that it's only 24 hours is quite frankly pretty generous of them.

I usually use a similar analogy to Duper, but I use my grandma's house instead of mine. If you're going to my grandma's house, you would know not to drop f-bombs. And if you did drop one and grandma was like "hey, language" you'd be expected to apologize. If instead you ranted about how my grandma is acting like a totalitarian corporation, then my grandma's house is not the place for you. And I would defend my grandma's decision.
