I'm back, suckers! Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated!

Current desktop: socket 457, 1GB of RAM, geforce 6200. Ubuntu Linux.

Image
Image

Upcoming portable PC, for carputing, LAN parties, etc. The case was made from a trashed bench oscilloscope, which I gutted and stuffed a PC into. It's a socket 478, 3.0 Ghz, 2GB of RAM, will have some sort of passively cooled geforce 7/8 card in it. Also running Ubuntu Linux. It will have a full multimedia center, GPS nav, OBDII tuning software, etc.

Image

I need to dust off the old Killstick and get busy!

My progressice PC upgrade project as it stands now:

Athlon x2 5200+ edit: Phenom II 940
Gigabyte GA-MA78G-S2H
4GB (2 x 2GB) Corsair C4 DDR2-800
512MB Radeon 4670 (Asus) edit: 512MB Sapphire Dual-slot Radeon 4850 (A reference board wouldn't have fitted the case without major internal reorganisation that I really didn't want to have to do)
Pioneer DVR-216BK DVD-RW
320GB WD Caviar SE16 HDD
Antec Basiq BP500U 500W PSU
Antec P180 Mini case
MS Internet Keyboard Pro edit: MS Comfort Curve 2000
Logitech R-20 speakers
MS Wireless Laser Mouse 6000
Samsumg SyncMaster 2233BW 22\" monitor
Windows 7 x64 beta build 7000

In the not-too-distant I intend to replace the 4670 with a 4850 and the 5200+ with a Phenom II 940. No pics yet as I don't have any batteries for my camera. Will definitely be taking some though, I'm quite pleased with how this particular build turned out (even if it is due more to cable management within the case than my skillz in comp building :P).

edit: The beast is now complete as per my original plans but I think I need a faster HDD, the Caviar Blue doesn't seem to be cutting it. I might slog it out until Windows 7 gets closer to retail so I can buy the new drive and get OEM pricing on the new OS at the same time

edit2: Finally got around to taking some snaps of the beast:

Image

Aside from that second SATA cable (I had to remove and re-tie after I put the 4850 in and it hasn't looked as neat since), it's my neatest build yet.

Well here's the mess I call my puter Desk:

Image
(sorry it's bluish, I forgot to set the white balance :P) ... (fixed )
Also, I don't have anything bling on the inside of my box. It looks more like the underhood of a 76' Cougar. :P

and my Grand-Daughter who is cooler than any of ya'lls gaming rigs! ;)

Your desk is certainly more organized than mine. I hid the clutter [from the picture] when I took the picture of my desk.

Whoever filtered my image thanks!. If you notice the clock it was almost 11:30 PM and I was rushing and didn't think to adjust the color. I was thinking more about the 4AM time I had to get up at. Thanks!

This is the first PC I've ever built. It's a monster for $400 bucks :) The wireless adapter added $50 to it, but it torrents at full speed on my network >:).

I can take some pics of the mobo if anybodys interested. One mistake though. I ordered the ddr2 memory before realizing it wouldn't work with the AM3 processor. I'm still not sure if it would or wouldn't actually, so I used the ddr2 in my dell :).

This thing is smoking fast for 400 bucks >:).

Integrated video?

Anyway, since I already had the picture from somewhere else I guess I could add to the long list here.

Image

Details -
Intel Core i7 920
MSI X58 Pro
12GB triple-channel DDR3-1066 SDRAM
EVGA GeForce GTX 285 1GB
Corsair TX650W PSU
1.5TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 HDD
XCLIO full AT case, with far too many blinking lights and oversize fans, but you really can't get away from them these days
Still waiting for the sound card. After two months. But Creative's stuff is generally pretty badly stocked anyway...

Other stuff that isn't in the picture:
Monitors - Samsung SyncMaster T260 and Acer AL1917 (secondary, as it's older)
Altec Lansing VS4121 speakers for when I want them, Sennheiser PC350 headset for when I don't
Don't know the exact keyboard or mouse; keyboard is some model of older MS \"natural\" design with a row of media buttons across the top; the mouse is a generic OEM optical thing which I haven't gotten around to replacing yet
Currently running Win7 RC (x64).

Yeah but it's mainly just a HTPC and I can set it to 1080p 1920x1080 at 60 hz on my new 40\" lcd(I wanted the 120 =/ but the tv was only 600 bucks) and file server once I get the raid card I want. However, the only games I play are d1,d2 and d3 and they look awesome on it. I see a dual stick setup and some footpedals in my near future >:)

Wow you spent a Minimum of $659 dollars on an O/S for Gaming..... funny thing that Server2008 plays games??? oh and could you give me the details on how you accomplished the Desktop Experience

Well Anyways thanks for sharing..... glad you moved off the couch in the basement to at least the living room

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

Not sure of the spec yet becuse it being replaced. With a newer Model.

Old system Alienware m17x 2.4ghz 1gb of ram had spare ram so it added 4gb. Windows vista
Dual 9800gt 1gb video ram. One gpu was running at 103c. So it being replaced by a M17x note the cap. cpu unknown. Gpu eather dual geforce 280 or Dual ati 4870. SSD drive

Right now On a Acer core duo 1.66ghz with 4gb of ram and intel 945 intergraded gpu. That where I seen my old game descent 3.

I has a new toy. My Toshiba I still have but is no longer in working condition at the moment.

I now have:

Dell Precision M60 mobile workstation
Intel Pentium M 755 2.0GHz, 600MHz FSB
2GB Samsung DDR333/PC2700 RAM, dual channel
Integrated nVidia QuardroFX Go1000 on AGP 4x
80GB WD Scorpio 5400RPM IDE HDD

Don't bash me for having a Dell; I got it for free, and I can't complain for getting this good system for free. I would rather have something made by someone else, but I'm not fussing.
