I bought a 3TB for $150 CDN so I find that pricey

Re: Opinion/review on this?
It is a bit more than the going rate for a 2 TB hard drive because it is also a NAS box. Its performance won't be as good as a local drive (won't even come that close actually). A decent 2 TB drive these days should easily saturate gigabit ethernet at 115 MB/sec and the best you will get out of this is about half that in sequential (still better than a couple generations ago when 5 MB/sec was all you would get). However 60 MB/sec still isn't a whole lot of fun when you are dumping 500 GB to a drive (or the full 1.81 TB for that matter). Big transfers like that are a lot less painful at the 120-140 MB/sec you would get between local drives. One thing to check would be how fast this drive is when its plugged in to USB3, if it pegs off at the forward edge max of about 140 MB/sec then you can do your initial dump over that and then hook it through the LAN once the major data is settled, potentially saving hours of time.
Really the question is what do you plan on doing that requires network storage?
