Sound in Games -- What tools are being used?

Post by Birdseye »

I work a LOT these days with sound (I work for an audio software company now) and I am curious as to what professional tools game companies are using to create their sounds.

In the audio world I am very familiar with what is used to produce commerical Cds (stuff like pro tools, auto-tune, etc.) but I am not sure what programs people are using in the gaming world to design sound and compose music with.

Anyone have any ideas? Anyone work with a game software company? Are there a bunch of sound programs that are exclusive to the gaming industry, or are they just using the tools the audio/music industry uses?
