D3 Online and who you miss the most?

Post by SirWinner »

Have been away too long.

1. Can someone point me to where D3 Games are hosted online of late?

2. Who do you miss the most in Descent?

Miss everyone since I've been away for quite a while... Don't visit as much as I'd like to do so.

---

Descent 3 is loaded with 1.4 Patch but haven't played it in a while.

The Descent 3 Game Tracker is at d3.descent.cx

You click on a server, and you can join it directly by the exe option.

Hope that helped :)

.......even better, get Vortex.
About
What is Vortex? Vortex is a tool very close to the old \"Gate\" or \"GLMax\":

-> includes a IRC-Client to connect to Descentforum.NET, Shadowfire, Gamesurge and every other IRC.
-> includes a Buddy-List with online-detection (independant of which chat you're in)
-> includes a Server-List of the Descent.CX tracker by esa (thank you very much man)
-> includes a mission-downloader with broken-link-detection and auto-extractor.
-> includes a mod-downloader with broken-link-detection and auto-extractor.
-> includes auto-updating (of Vortex).
-> includes a commandline-switch-creator (used when games are launched by Vortex).
-> includes a lan-server-list.
-> includes a relay function to support online servers (even filtered) to be displayed ingame.
-> includes a direct join-into-games feature.
-> includes feature to launch D3 into games by website-links like d3://217.160.16.30:2092 and much more

I miss playing D3 but sadly, I got tired of the same levels being played. No one is brave enough to play anything other than Skybox, Subway Dancer, Minerva and maybe a few others. After playing these levels for years, it's boring.

I still have D3 installed but haven't touched it in years.

I miss d3, I dont have a joystick anymore, nor the disks to play it.

I miss playing with D3k alot, every other team I've joined in any other game has been short lived and very lacking in teh fun.

if I ever got up my personal play server running again, I'd gladly put up any levels OTHER than the ones mentioned and played half to death.

I have servers with Entrophy and stuff on maps like Dementia, Havoc, and Bedlam. Sadly, the servers are buggy as hell.

Entropy was good but was hard. Not many people wanted to learn to p[lay it well.
Most just want anarchy.

UT3 has a game mode that's very much like Entropy and seems to do well these days. (Still tough though)

Duper, yeah but UT also has a million players and D3 only has less than 100 left.

It shows you haven't touched it in years. I just played a great game of Bill the Cat with cope, 007guy, and i think candyass. I also play Vamped, faded rose, stadium, hally, ascent, bi3, waltz n matilda, gladius. Don't let the location of play be your excuse... you find me in any game/chat at any time and ill start up any level with with you.

I miss Blue Falcon the most and Ingus. I also miss the players who remain hidden behind unrecognizable pilot names. I sometimes hear forum members talking about the game \"they\" played yet I never see them.

Anyway, I have lots of fun with the \"regulars\".

Ah, yes, we call that \"smurfing\" in Mechwarrior 4. It's a little bit silly unless you're trying to hide your identity... and there are not many reasons to do that any more.

People I miss the most... oh, yeah, there would be a few of them, but top of the list would be one of RedDawn, Piranha or Buzz.

Hahaha.... I will always remember that. From now on I will be playing with regulars, and a bunch of smurfs. :)

I just got back to D3 Multiplayer(due to a long hiatus from it). I either play for fun or for the sake of winning.

The person I miss the most from Descent is probably my younger brother, who was the one who got me into the game back in '94. We used to play D1 and D2 on the LAN at the computer lab in college all the time. I wish he'd join in more than the once a year or so he does.

The "regulars" also depend on what time of day you play, especially when considering that Descent players live in time zones all over the world.

There are "regulars" that I hardly ever see, because the "regulars" I play with generally play at a completely different time of day/night.

When I'm finishing my games (usually well after midnight in US Eastern time), it's not unusual to see the early German players getting started, or to see their later games ending when I get to work in the morning.

Foil, I know about time differences and sometimes I get a chance to go online at an odd hour to play my German friends but some of the regulars I'm talking about post here in real time when I do.

Every time I play I see \"new\" players. Small point.. no big deal.

I've only been playing online a little over a year, so most of my favorite people to play with still play.

I'm with Bett, though, I wish people would play under alias you could recognize.

Half the time I don't know who I'm in a game with unless they happen to be in ventrilo.

Seconded. I never played him online (as far as I can remember), but Ingus is one of the greatest posters in the history of the DBB, and maybe the internet. :D

Have to say I miss seeing Hostile in VV. I remember when I was but a wee noob unfamiliar with the forums I thought he was the best guy on d3 online. I also remember playing a stadium game when Birds came in. I had no idea who he was. Some other guy in the game was like "omfg its birdseye best player in d3" and I was like na this guy doesn't know what he's talking about at all. Hosti is the best. Lol. Memories. I miss ★■◆● like that. I miss playing the old players that were ridiculously good, instead of just behe. Heck, I also remember my first game online. It was some monsterball game, I had no idea what was going on. I was dying left and right. But it was still incredibly fun. Been hooked since then. I miss how ★■◆● used to be, I miss shakers, I miss different levels, I miss people.

Welcome back. I had fun playing with you in Shakers today. Points for being the only one there in a pyro - that takes guts.
grizz wrote: I'm with Bett, though, I wish people would play under alias you could recognize.
Me too! Especially when playing someone good. I want to know so I can have bragging rights if I do well. I'm not to the point yet where I can recognize a player by his/her style. Cept for maybe bunbitch.

Buchi, Coolhandbud, Kamikaze(there's one now but he's German) Used to play random games with them all the time, then we actually all went and played one dumb game called 'Runescape'(not Buchi) together, don't know where they are now.

Everyone now is too busy calling me a hack that I can't really be friends with any of them, only place I seem to get along with people is in Delia's co-op's

This ol' DoG misses my Brother (Catdawg/Phenomena) he introduced me to this game about 8 years ago.

I have to say don't matter what server or what level, let's just play. (well except for Veins and Subway that is )
It's never good to wake up in the shrubs naked, you either got way too drunk, or your azz is a werewolf.

I can't name just one person. I can say I miss the hey days of Descent3 though. Back when the server list was filled with lots of servers hosting different levels with lots of people in them having lots of fun! Hell, even chat was fun back in those days!

Like most of the others that are hit and miss players these days. I hold onto hope that someday we will see another Descent style game appear and bring us another period of unadultrated fun! Until then I will pop into chat once in awhile and say hello, maybe be seen at a LAN AND if I'm feeing real nostalgic, I will actually plug my sticks in and jump into a server!

Yea coolhandbud was a good friend, we chatted all the time. That was back when I was in team NuB though around 5 years ago.
