audio contrast term.

Post by Isaac »

I'm trying to solve a problem but I think I may not be searching the correct term.
I want to decrease the contrast between high and low audio on my master volume. So far I've only found scripts that limit how loud you can set the volume %.

What would you name such a function/app?

Signal-to-noise ratio? SNR? Is that the term you're looking for?

Or are you looking for audio equalization?

High-pass filter.

But that just chops off frequencies.

Aa graphic equalizer might be of use

You may want a compander.

I think an EQ would do it for me. I'll have to try first.

my problem:
We have some speakers hooked up to a computer used for entertainment. The volume is pretty good for the small speakers but we have to keep our hands on the controls when watching anything. Everything's either too loud or quite.

Thank you everybody for your posts. I'll post back if an eq solves this. If not I'll move onto the other things mentioned here.

Umm you want a compander/compressor;

or an automatic level control;

I do this stuff for a living and an EQ wont do what you want.

Hmm what kind of stereo system are you playing it through, make/model? Some have \"Night\" mode which is basically what you need.
