Why is the DBB.net so slow?

Post by Blaze »

Seems like every time I use this site, pages are slow to load. All other sites are fast. What gives?

Network congestion around the server most likely, I've noticed variations in the speed the last few days. It will probably clear up with some time.

I've always noticed that threads with lots of posts load really slow compared to other websites. It's like it's loading one post at a time or something.

Everytime i come back here it's slow and a lot of things don't work. I note the search still doesn't work properly.

I doubt it's coincidence that this is just happening when i come here, i'm not THAT jinxed.

I will also confirm consistent slowness. This is not just a temporary thing. Editing a post is the worst.

^ Editing posts times out half the time with a blank page displayed after the long wait is over, and then the edit was not even accepted.

shrug I just get impatient when I post, edit posts, read posts and so on.

It's actually one of the reasons I used to use .com so much in the beginning. Sad, but true. =P

What I have notied is that page loads are fast, but actually POSTING takes forever and basically requiers me to ignore the tab where I'm posting something for a few minutes.

I would guess there's some horrible performance bottleneck for creating or editing posts... maybe database writes are very slow, while reads aren't (contention for locks perhaps)?

Here is an error I just got while trying to post something that forced me to hit back and re-submit:
General Error

Could not obtain common word list

DEBUG MODE

SELECT m.word_id FROM phpbb_search_wordmatch m, phpbb_search_wordlist w WHERE w.word_text IN ('application', 'apps', 'control', 'data', 'doing', 'firewalls', 'idiots', 'junk', 'let', 'matter', 'nonissue', 'number', 'outgoing', 'points', 'rid', 'smartphones', 'stretch', 'that', 'think', 'tho', 'tracking', 'try', 'two', 'user') AND m.word_id = w.word_id GROUP BY m.word_id HAVING COUNT(m.word_id) > 107529

Line : 309
File : functions_search.php
Hope this helps.

It doesn't appear slow to me at this moment.

Is this still an issue with anyone else?
