Joystick Problems

Post by jsimmons »

Windows 7/64
AMD AM3 3Ghz
16GB RAM
nVidia 8800GTX
Logitech Attack 3 USB joystick

I just got Descent 3 (with expansion pack) off the gog.com site, and ran out and purchased a Logitech Attack 3 USB joystick. I plugged the joystick in and ran through the Windows calibration sequence, and fired up the game.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to get Descent to let me set the various axis (when I move the joystick itself). I can set the Z-axis and configure the buttons, but none of the rest of the axis movements are detected.

Help me Obi-wan...

D3 detects the axis that first is some given value from the center position.
Move the throttle (z-axis) to the middle before detecting and it should work.

The z-axis already works in d3. It's the rest that don't seem to be recognized by the game.

An that's likely because D3 detects the z-axis, before you have a chance to move another axis.

This is the case if you don't have the z-axis centered during detection.

Tebo is exactly correct.

The z-axis (the throttle, not the twist) is looked at before any other axes... so if it's set forward or back, D3 will \"catch\" that axis before looking at the others.

So... center your z-axis.
