No, fear for YOUR COUNTRY.

The rest of the world still teaches kids that the antonym for "pro-" is "anti-". We also still have subjects like "English", "Maths", "Biology", "Physics", "Chemistry", and "Geography".

Whereas the US seems to have senior student subjects like:
"Mathiness" (The challenging "addition and subtraction" course)
"Engrish" (Where nothing is ever wrong, merely "more or less correct.")
"Social Responsibility" (Where you learn not to criticise the government, and how to forget about the Constiution)
"Home Ec" (Where you learn it is easier to order a Pizza than to cook at home)
"Typing" (Where you learn how to surf porn and crack software)
"Programming" (Where you learn to surf porn and crack software)
"Accounting" (Where you learn about mail-fraud and that owing 10 times your annual salary is actually a good thing)
"US History" (Where you learn history according to "who won")
"Geography" (Where you learn where Kansas is)

I tell ya, when I was in the 12th grade at a high school in Rhode Island, I was horrified. Even though I was a strictly average student here in NZ (and only in the 11th grade) I managed to sleep through Biology and still get 2nd in the school. Looked out the window in Biology and topped the school. And the biggest shock of all: to get 4th in the entire school in US History, after living in the USA for less than 3 months. Oh, I also won the senior spelling prize - but that's no surprise to you, I'm sure!

My impression of public high school in the USA in the early 80s was that the students were pretty much out of control, the teachers were unable to discipline the students, the subjects were about 2-3 years behind compared to what we studied here (except in English, where I couldn;t make a comparison, because we didn't seem to study anythign at all, really).

I wonder how bad it is 25 years later? Obviously it is no better, and probably much worse.

I only moved from one part of the state to another, but I was suddenly a year ahead of everyone else. I made up 6 months of schoolwork in 2 months, and sailed through all my courses with little effort. I moved close to a city, mind you, where I would assume that the courses would be harder...not in the least. I was never challenged in school. I would be reading chapter 25, and the teacher would call me to read something..\"Where?\". \"Chapter 9\". haha, ok! We were halfway through the school year by then. We never finished a textbook, in any class. Not we..they. I finished them all.

This was 12 years ago. I've seen what some kids are dealing with now in 10/11th grade, and it's stuff I covered in 8th.

Hehe, technically, by evolution of language his answer was \"correct\" but I do fear.

What I wanna know is, i went to private schools up to college, which Im currently in, and is a publc institution, but I feel that the reason eduacation is declining as much as it is here in the US is becuase teachers are afraid to break out the trusty ruler and give someone a good beating. yeah, students were out of control in the 80's, hell, they still are. so many lawyers and frivelous law suits makes it hard to teach here. its not that we are not teaching it, were just not grading students with the scrutiny that they should be graded by. Oh, timmy, you got a D, you passed, good job. ★■◆● like that. When is passing simply that, passing, students and parents dont take pride in their work anymore, and teachers are to afraid to break the pride that a kid does have.

Its not just discipline, but bad teachers. Somehow a good number of them dont even teach the material and they get away with it. There doesn't seem to be a serious process to evaluate the quality of the instruction by the teacher.

I had an English teacher in community college who was very quiet, hard to understand, and never finished a sentence and would often just trail off into gibberish. I seriously thought she was mental or was some kind of a recovering alcoholic (and I bet she was). The drop out/failure rate was high in her class, yet no one stops to take a look why that is the case.

The problem isn't just discipline/students who dont care but more along the lines of the fact that U.S. teachers DON'T GET FIRED.

Besides that, the discipline to study and do well in school comes from the home. If you have parents who dont care, then neither will their kids. And unfortunately we have alot of people who dont care in this country.

The sad thing is I know a person who put \"X is here\" on their math quiz because they actually thought that was what they were asking.

dude,,,,he got a 61% =I agree, either fake, or the state of the education system really is in decline, in my old High school that would have netted a 0%, a detention, some type of conference and a little more psychiatric testing
