We need to post more videos of Descent. Maybe it would bring an other influx of people into the game and future games.

No, there's not, especially when talking about a Descent video. "Mah Pyyyyy-rohhh's broke, and mah guidebot won't come home..."

You do that, and I swear I will find out where you live.....

:P

Country is NOT music, and is an ABOMINATION that must be purged from existance!

Tiger: That video would have been alot better if you had actually MOVED. ;)

Youtube seems decidedly lacking for multiplayer videos, actually.

I can't stand country music... but there is a couple good songs i do not mind listening to... or dancing to if I went to a country club. Line dancing= fun! :D

I should fix up D3 so I can play a couple games this summer. THe last time I tried playing, the game keeps freezing up.
Pretty neat spider-like boss, tiger. what level were you on?

Yeah, I've always liked to see some Descent speedruns like the Quake Done Quicker guys released. Unfortunately playing keyboard only I'm not up to the challenge...

I'd do it, but I think it'd work better with someone who actually bothered with the tri-chording much. I tend to be lazy...

Still. :) D2 level 7 would be fun to shortcut. Could probably clear in under 2 minutes...

My favorite is still D1 level 7... the one with the big red boss that shoots smart missiles at ya while the little bulky red bots shoot homers after you... looong time ago I used to play around in that level to work on my dodging skills.

I went \"tubing\" last night and there are some very nice vids of Descent out there now. (In part to you Tiger) I ran across one of D1, lvl2 on insane posted. ..the entire level. It was nicely done!

Someone (he also did Quake speedruns) uploaded his speedruns from D1 on youtube: http://youtube.com/results?search_query ... rch=Search
They are awesome :)

You've never heard of Johnny Cash, I take it.

But yes, a super play of Descent would be right awesome.

Hehe, reminds of that scene in Buffy The Vampire Slayer 1x12 where Xander get's turned down by Willow when asking her to go to the dance with him and which makes him say:
That's okay. I don't wanna go. I'm just gonna go home, lie down and listen to country music. The music of pain.
which is getting quite hillarious when later on in the show you actually see him lying on the bed with a depressed face listening to country music.

Umm....I have. The genre still sucks ass. :P

Tiger: Looks like you need flying lessons. :P I pity the mechanic that would have to pound all those dents out.

Well, if you really want depressing, we can bust out the doom metal.

As much as I wanted to debate anything I think that it should be done in another thread, not this one.

And I'll just harass you with Linkin' Park until you go insane. :P (No, I'm not a fan of them either. :D)

Tiger: Maybe you should try Geico.

BTW, does anyone know how to contact this davedore guy? I'd like to get the demo files for his speedruns so I can watch them on a decent resolution! I pm'ed him over at YouTube but he hasn't replied.

Care to be impressed? Check this out!

He recorded the speedruns with fraps, they're not demo files. Ofc you can ask whether he has demo files, too. But the original AVIs would be cool to have, too.

Sure, but like I said, I haven't gotten any reply.

I understood that. I just doubt he has demo files. But ofc I don't know for sure.

MMh, I can't imagine someone wouldn't record demos of his skills in this case. Do you think it's technically feasible to both record them and an avi at the same time?

Posted: Sat Apr 21, 2007 3:04 pm
by Diedel
Of course it is. Fraps periodically grabs the contents of the current frame buffer (video image memory) and saves it to disk. This does not depend on the frame rate the game runs with. If Fraps records at 60 fps, and the game runs at 30 fps, Fraps will save each image twice (bar the possibility it detects and discards duplicates, which I doubt, as this costs quite some time).

Each frame, the demo system writes every significant event plus the state of every object to disk. Apart from possible mass storage bottlenecks (HD write speed, particularly if two different files are involved that may require a lot of head repositioning if both are saved to the same physical device), that doesn't interfere.

So he could have demos. Imo they would be pointless though, as the Fraps recording potentially has better quality (no object jiggling due to the standard demo format's lossy position data packing - which I have fixed in D2X-XL), and is not depending on the speed of the system playing back the demo (slow system may have to skip, fast system may have to interpolate demo frames).
