I used to make sugar sandwiches when I was little. The pantry was lean occasionally and I would poke around for something to eat, par for the coarse when you're a kid. Well, there was always white bread lying around, but no meats, PB@J or cheese. I finally came up with a slice of white bread, slather on a lot of butter, coat with lots of sugar and slap on another slice of bread. Wow, I can feel the energy still! My mother probably wondered why I was always hyper and the bread was disappearing!
Plain old buttered cooked spaghetti with some salt and pepper was another favorite, actually still is.
My mother-in-law used to slather mayo on white bread and top with lots of black olives. That one doesn't appeal to me though.
