Alternate to Synctoy

Post by thewolfe »

I use MS SyncToy which has worked fine but I want to sync a file only. Synctoy makes you jump through hoops to sync one file.

Any suggestions?

Using it between XP and Win7.

Depending on how much you need to sync you could use drop box.

I was trying to get a one click solution to sync laptop & desktop on my network. I do that for my Outlook but can't get Synctoy to do the job with one file. I can always copy and paste.

I do use Dropbox but it's more steps than I want.

Thanks for the post.

Correct me if I am wrong, how is drop box more then one step? if you just save everything in your drop box folder, then it does all the work for you, I have it set with my Mac, and my Desktop PC.

If I'm not mistaken if a file has changed Dropbox would only have the old one.

So I'm grabbing the file from a location on my desktop, putting it in Dropbox, going to my Laptop, grabbing the file from Dropbox and putting it in the correct location.

I'm trying to keep my password mangr among other things updated on my laptop (from my desktop) or visa-versa.

Sync toy does that with folders, like my whole Outlook folder.

It's never good to wake up in the shrubs naked, you either got way too drunk, or your azz is a werewolf.
