I sense an ulterior motive here... :P one that we all share...

The best part is if they decide to remove Freespace from the listing, hopefully most, if not all, of those votes would drip down to Descent ^^.

I hope...

We do? :P All things being equal, I'd far rather see Volition tackle FreeSpace 3.

Traitor! :o

\"Traitor\"? Since when were people allowed to like one single game only? :P

Don't try to muddle us, traitor. ;) You said \"rather\". That makes you Freespace scum. Cast your vote wisely or you will be stripped of rank and cast out of the mines into the terrifying void of... well, Freespace!

\"Scum\"? Get over yourself. I'm primarily a singleplayer gamer, and the sort of games I like the best are those with a compelling story set in an expansive universe. That's exactly what Volition did with FreeSpace, and that's the very reason why its mod community is so active and fantastic now, while the Descent community is...well, just look around you. Maybe it works for you, but there's only so many hours that I can play boring old Anarchy before I'm ready to move on. Give me the game that promotes fantastic storytelling any day.

(Also, lulz at the idea that a random web poll will determine anything concrete about future publisher actions. This is that stupid Interplay poll from a few years ago all over again. :P)

Joke.
I had posted something else before I saw your post and in the context of what you said it had sounded completely idiotic and irrelevant... since I can't delete posts on this board I needed to change it to something fast before anyone could read it :P.

You can delete your own post, if no one else has posted after you.

Just hit "Edit", and check the "Delete this post" box.

And then hope the board doesn't throw an inevitable error at you in the process. :P

And yes, I know that was (mostly) a joke, but what I said sort of is the reason why I can count the number of times I've played Descent over the past year or two on one hand. At the moment, my current addiction is Team Fortress 2, so that sucks away time from other things anyway. :P

Way to make them take it seriously, ya dork.

I think it's more than likely your multiple votes will not be counted.

Oooh, remember back on the old Interplay site when they had a similar poll, maybe 01, 02ish.....

Aren't you calling me dork? I voted each browser. (Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer.)

The server might log each vote with an ip address, but that still doesn't mean it won't count each vote.

Ahh, that's better so much. Than Sergeant Thorne's post.

I understood, thanks.

(Danger: Isaac is in boring mode)
Just to be more clear, they have to assume that there are a percentage of people who are trying \"stuff the ballot box\". There should be a way of counting these \"super fans\" since those users would have a higher probability of buying the product on release, than those casual voters. The more \"crazies\" you have voting for one product the bigger potential profit the corresponding company might make(..maybe). Though, the preceding votes from a user couldn't count as full votes, they should at least count in some other way.

Stuffing the ballot box is not cool. You disrespect everyone engaging in the poll, as well as the ones running it. Hence the \"dork\". I don't think you've thought it through.

Isaac, I think it's more likely that the \"superfans\" who think their opinion holds so much more weight than anyone else's will be he ones pirating the game later down the road.

Yes, and I had remember how absurdly the community reacted to that one too. :P Hell, this poll is even more meaningless than that one (which was quite meaningless), given that it's on a simple third-party gaming site.

You're mixing two things and loosing perspective. (Though I doubt you'll gain any from this post... or anything I'll ever write)

In a real election, sure. It's very wrong to cheat, but in our market we count on consumers re-voting for their favorite products by re-purchasing. For a poll like this, we can get two kinds of information. First we can see how many people are interested and, through any odd behavior, try to see who is more interested, to detect those potential fans ( those who'll buy the T-Shirt, DVD, and every copy for every platform). Now it won't be a perfect method of detecting those types of people, but it's data that could be used for trying to find their percentage among the other categories.
Isaac, I think it's more likely that the "superfans" who think their opinion holds so much more weight than anyone else's will be he ones pirating the game later down the road.
I would argue that the more popular my application is the more likely I'll have to worry about people pirating it. However, that won't stop me from making a fun and useful application and hope it becomes popular.

Please note that I'm not going to waste time "stuffing the ballot box" for anything, even if I was asked to, but if I were running that poll I would try to measure that type of behavior. That's all I'm saying. You're suggesting that type of information be thrown away. What a huge waste! Maybe separate that data into a second table but don't toss it out! That's all I'm trying to tell you.
