      • Fixed the one-second delay on the Lasers, which was left-over from a test.
      • Fixed the radius on EarthShakers and their children causing them to prematurely detonate.
      • Increased the energy consumption of most of the weapons.
      • Increased the radius of the cannons by 25%
      • Added attach points 1 and 2 (apparently these are for carrying flags.)

Thank you, gentlemen. D3 is being nasty about handling the eight gun points, so as soon as I get the reticle figured out I plan on releasing it. Depending on how interested the community becomes, I'll allow pilots to paint their own fighters, as opposed to having a small 32 x 32 image. That process would look something like me releasing the templates, pilots painting their ships, then me re-mapping a new OOF with his/her name on it--literally. Assigning textures was a pain on the first go-around, but subsequent models would be nearly effortless. Finally, a periodic and scheduled re-release would follow.

As arrogant and overconfident the thought is, I'm hoping to bring some community back with something new and exciting. :)

If someone stops in, I'll play for a bit. Usually it's a nice break from all the headaches this thing is giving me. I won't stay to anarchy, though, I just don't think that'd be very cool to do to someone. :S The cockpit it almost done, but I'm having the damndest problem with it: No rear views.

Now, I don't know why, but the canopy is appearing over the panel itself. See the darker arc where the tinting extends across? Yeah... And like I said earlier, the rear views will not come up. I have no leads on either problem.

On another note, the Wolf's Den will be open for business tonight. Just a relaxing Co-op on Insane. Hope to see some of you there. :)

Even further out of ideas, now. I figured maybe the engine was getting pissy because the panel and the fuselage mesh were different subobjects, so I backed all the way up to 3ds and attached them. I even cut the canopy and attached the forward half to the panel, and left the rear half stand alone. Re-imported to Descent 3, and the results look exactly the same as the aforementioned. Truly, truly baffling.

Well, so long as it's only the cockpit that's holding this thing up, I'd like to open the forum now on the performance specs and the weapons' systems of the Wolf-GX, and I'd like to take into consideration the needs/wants of the community.

Some interesting finds, this morning. With some restructuring of the model hierarchy, and I'm sure a train-load of good fortune, the cockpit now appears as desired in game, minus a few artifacts. Unfortunately, the rear view function is still not functioning, and this I just cannot accept... Or can I?

After a frustrating series of trial and error, I finally ripped all geometry off the cockpit with exception to the planes that make up the monitors/glares themselves. I then overwrote the Pyro-GL's cockpit file and launched a single player game. What did I find, but that the rear views don't display on the monitors at all, anyway! Outrage, in their infinite wisdom, did like everything else, took all the important information and buried it in the first-drawn and lowest-echelon layer possible. Simply said, every time you have the hood down and you turn your rear views on, the left and right HUD displays are actually removed, and the rear views are displayed "beneath" the cockpit.

Clearly, Outrage's lack of foresight and incompetence knows (or knew) no limits.

In any event, the Wolf-GX is now complete, and as soon as I finish packaging the hog, will be ready for combat trials. :3

The Wolf-GX is now available from download via my Google documents folder. No sign-in is required, only the URL. As a reminder, all pilots are encouraged to acquire the paint templates, and return to me your personalized paint-jobs in ogf format. This will allow me to re-assign your own personal models (and in essence, everyone has their own boat.) I figure it beats the hell out of a piece of 64x64 real estate. The templates are 1024x1024 (old flight simulator habit,) but please keep in mind all images must be scaled down to 256x256 to be usable. :)

New, High-poly Megas and Shakers for the Wolf-GX.
Next: Smarts and Mercs!

Something I'm currently considering is making a new projectile for the Omega cannon, and turning it into a traditional, albeit overpowered, projectile weapon. 8)

Sounds awesome! I like the descent 2 omega projectiles much more than descent 3 sticks.

I'd like the D3 omega if it had more reach. Thing about that is it's hard coded into the DLL somewhere. Basically, you can't change anything about it. Although what I could do is make a new death-stick in the form of an OOF, maybe, and then just give it gunpoint homing? Don't know about that one. Not sure what kind of a projectile I want to give it, to be honest. Fusion already takes the blob, and plasma already takes the sphere (sort of, it's actually a facing plane.) EMD already takes the spinner (another facing plane.) The laser already has the bolt-like cylinder. Maybe I could make it shoot kittens? Teh kitteh gun!

Mortar and Napalm rocket up. For some reason, I had a great deal of trouble with these two weapons. I think in the future I'll actually have to start concept drawing, and then modelling. With these two weapons, especially the mortar, as straight forward as it is, I just had no clue what to do, then the concept art from the D3 installation screen came to mind and I just said "Eh, okay." The napalm rocket was a pain, too. I was originally going with more geospheres (like the smart,) then somehow I came up with the idea to use capsules or mini-tanks instead. Perhaps the problem is I'm trying to stay close to D3 taboo instead of just cutting loose. Still though, needs more concept drawing before I start modelling, I guess. :P Let me know what you guys think of those, please.

Fixed the frag. Had somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,500 polys, and Descent didn't like that at all. I got it down to the 400 neighborhood by simply remodeling the center section and deviating from the "inflatable balloon" theory I've been playing with.

This is my first concept for the Omega projectile. I got to thinking about Alpha and Omega. Alpha, the beginning, would represent light and new life. Omega, the end, represents the end of all things, darkness, and ultimately, death. That train of thought brought me to the event horizon, a black hole. I wanted to avoid another facing image, but this is my idea of a singularity.
