What's your ride?

Hi,

What is everyone driving? I just upgraded from a 2014 Kia Optima SX to a 2017 Ford Taurus SHO.

I'm in love.

The Kia was nice but it was to small. The SHO was the dealer owner car and only had 5000KM on it. dropped the price by $14,000.

Not too small, not too big, its just right. And I like the CVT, never feel it shifting or hunting for gears, always accelerates smoothly. I call it the crazy transmission that pushes a rope (look it up sometime, the tech is relatively simple but still makes you question how they ever got it working). Granted it isn't going to break any speed records, but it has never felt lacking in power either.

Used Toyota Rav4, meticulously cared for by a Swiss scientist. Super low miles. Manual transmission. It feels nicer that some new cars I've owned. Since I don't drive a whole lot I'll probably have it until I retire.

Heh, I drive the same thing as Krom unless someone else in the house needs it, in that case I drive the same thing as vision.

Currently leasing a 2016 VW Golf S. Love the little thing. When the lease is up next year, I may wind up trying to upgrade to a GTI.

It does! I ride my 24-speed commuter to work a couple times a week.

Pretty sweet ride TigerRaptorFX. What do you use on the plastic body parts to shine them up so nicely?

Meguiar's Ultimate Black for the mirrors, bumper and roof rack. It only lasts a couple of weeks.

STILL haven't gotten around to taking a pic, but my ride looks just like this one, color and all. There's even a couple of these FJ's with this exact same color scheme running around Corvallis and this is a small town, so I'm guessing it was a popular color.

Test drove the 2018 4Runner and did a side by side comparison. Can't believe how well the 4Runner the drives and handled on the test track. Right now I'm still debating if I want the SR5 or TRD model. Not sure what I'm doing the Xterra yet.

I'm not much of a Mercedes person. However I would love to get inside a Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4. Hey it has the aerodynamics of a refrigerator but it is a ★■◆●ing beast off road. 18 inches of ground clearance and you don't even see the axles.

Whenever I see FJ Cruiser I think to myself sometimes if I made the wrong decision not buying one. It reminds so much of the old Land Cruiser.

Nah, Tiger.

You made a good decision in not buying it.

Sure it looks cool on the outside but the inside, it's a pain in the ass to see out of. There are massive blindspots present and looking out of the windshield is like looking out a slit. It's like they designed it for looks instead of functionality - and a driver seeing out of it is priority number one for functionality.

Plus, they're notorious for the frame rusting, especially in salt. But the sweet thing is, it's now worth more than I paid for it.

The bad visibility was the first thing I noticed. I would be driving more as a mall crawler than a overlander. As for rust, Nissan is the king of rust.

Bumping a thread after over 2 years? Why not!
My ride has changed since the last time this thread was updated:
Image
About the same size as the last car, also doesn't shift like the last car (only it doesn't have a transmission at all instead of just having a weird one).
And a bit quicker... Like say around 500 HP.

Back in the early days bumping a old thread was frowned upon.

Well as long as it's here again...
now that my brother and I are living on our own we have a 2013 Mazda 3 (manual!) hatchback. Of the two of us I'm the only one who drives at all so it's pretty much mine, though I am obligated to occasionally chauffer him around and we keep a little of his "travel" stuff in there as well as mine. :)
The car used to belong to our sister, but she lives in Toronto now and it was more trouble to keep over there than it was worth. I'm quite happy with it, it's nice to have manual again and it feels better to drive than the other Mazda 3 we used to have at the family home.

And my first modification. If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious s***. The gas needle is going to down a little faster.

I can tell that's a Toyota just from looking at the shifter. The transfer case shifter knob is a dead ringer for the one in my 2011 FJ Cruiser. You'd think Toyota would've changed that thing by now. I love the carbon fiber accents though. Nice touch with the Back to the Future motif. I gather the flux capacitor lights up?

I heard of a guy who was involved in that massive Texas ice storm pile up. He was in his FJ Cruiser. Watch at the one minute point. He gets squished between 2 semis by one going nearly full highway speed. The impact then tosses his rig completely over the median. The only intact part of his FJ was the front compartment. He survived with only a minor scratch. He was a paramedic and even got out and helped others before the authorities realized he'd been in that FJ. Toyota has done this before with others who've lost their vehicles in severe situations and they bought him a brand new top of the line Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro.

While watching that video: "Oh god, make it stop!" maximum cringe.

Went snooping through the related videos to find out what started it, one of them had some aftermath footage from a helicopter with a wider angle showing it was a bridge, now it makes sense.

Supposedly a refresh is coming for the 4Runner soon. Look at the FJ Crusier still sold in other parts of the world, not much has change.

The USB Flux Capacitor flashes for 4-5 seconds when the car starts up. I did use it quite a bit in my 07 Xterra and for 20 bucks it works rather well. Now I keep it around for kicks. What's kind of funny the people who wanted to see in the 4Runner noticed the Flux Capacitor right away.

Yeah, apparently Toyota still sells it in the Middle East and in the Philippines of all places. Toyota should bring it back to the states for a year and see if sales take off. Ones in good condition here with lower mileage command a pretty hefty price, $45,000 + right now. I hope Toyota doesn't do the giant mouth grill styling on the 4Runner. Toyota made the Yaris look like a seriously pissed off catfish. Uck!
