aeroplanes in ancient egypt?
reading other forums and came across this:
In 1898 a small 6 inch model plane, with fuselage, wings and tail, was discovered in a tomb near Saqqara, Egypt, It was dated to approximately 200 BC.
The model was sent to the Cairo Museum of Antiquities. Here it was catalogued as Special register No. 6347 Room 22, and then it was promptly forgotten. At the time of its discovery, modern aviation did not exist. Rediscovered in the museumâ??s storerooms in 1969, it was found to fly perfectly as a glider, though there are indications it may have originally possessed a propulsion mechanism at the tail. The design is highly sophisticated.
It has been claimed that the Egyptians never made a model of anything unless it was used in real life. At least 14 other model aircraft have been found in Egyptian tombs.
neat huh.
the thread also had ppl talking about ancient indian texts that spoke of such things as what can be described today as mercury ion engines, traditional aero-theory and even space travel.
they are trying to figure out what the texts were: serious, plans, ideas, or just drugged out writtings.
either way it's neato.

I recently saw a show that talked about this one:
http://www.world-mysteries.com/sar_7.htm#Colombia
It was found in Columbia. On the show some guy built a model of it and it flew perfectly.

Berbuda light and gas
See... Light from the sun, reflecting off of gas bubbles high in the upper atmosphere caused images of planes lost in the Bermuda Triangle to appear briefly in the skys over Egypt at about the time of 200 B.C.
Sure, it could happen... so could aliens.

great link Xamindar, i'm seeing a lot of the stuff that people in that thread was talking about in that link.

i'm so interested! i'm probabaly breaking though laws with with my huge internal stockpiles of "interest for this cool thing".Their method of propulsion, she said, was "anti-gravitational" and was based upon a system analogous to that of "laghima," the unknown power of the ego existing in man's physiological makeup, "a centrifugal force strong enough to counteract all gravitational pull." According to Hindu Yogis, it is this "laghima" which enables a person to levitate.

OMG. Next we'll be reading about Eric Von Danikan and electric batteries in Arabian pre-history, Jet powered rocket packs in the Amazon and god knows what else.
Look: coincidence!
And "We only build models of real things we make". What a crock. Those "scientists" read far more than what the facts support.
The wings of their model (if it ever existed) curve downwards, because that's what their birds looked like soaring. *sigh*
It's *EASY* to see a bird and build a wooden model of it. Hell, if you make enough of them, eventually you'll make one that glides OK too.
But asserting that a six inch model "was powered"? What sort of insanity is that? Powered by WHAT - exactly? Propellers? I think not. Even if they had propellers, they predate the rubber band by - oh - 2000 years or so. What else could drive it? NOTHING.
I get really sick reading this crap.
Yes, Egyptians were smart. Yes, they built the pyramids (Try http://www.theforgottentechnology.com ), but they did NOT invent or create anything more sophisticated than paper/wooden gliders - for FUN. Yes - FUN.

Mobman, you can be such a intelligent moron at times. Ever see the droopy wings of a B52 when it is parked?Mobius wrote: The wings of their model (if it ever existed) curve downwards, because that's what their birds looked like soaring. *sigh*
In flight the wings straighten out as they bear the weight of the aircraft. Mobius wins the Blue Footed Booby award

Contrary to what everyone (aparently) thinks, ancient man was not stupid.
I'm willing to bet that they're more intelegent then we are. What numerous ancient cultures are known for is schooling and philiosphy, now quite a few cultures are known for big dimbulbs with about 8IQ bashing the $#!t outta each other on national TV.
If I was a pharoah, would I want to sit around all day doing boring pharoah-ly duties? I think not, I'd want all the fancy toys, and a toy glider would be quite high on my want list. Can you imagine tossing a wooden airplane off the top of a pyramid? Out a palace window? At the palace guards?

Bah, I still think the precolumbian jet is more interesting. It has Delta wings and a modern airplane tail. It doesn't resemble any type of animal, but looks just like a modern jet. This thing is over 1000 years old! How the flip!KompresZor wrote:You guys want to see pictures of it. Just please try to contain you excitement
