Video Game Pianist

Post by Topher »

So I found this article on slashdot a while ago, but because of slashdot, all the links to download are now borked. Yet I've heard very good things about this guy's music.

Anyone know of a good mirror or have the files?

one of the middle mirrors for the first 17.5MB album (not the album at the top) is working for me.

ps, searching google for "mario piano" will show up some vids of this guy.

He's been at it for years. I have a videoclip where he is at least four or five years younger and playing mario themes already.

Pretty amusing yeah. Is it just me, or is his rhythm not quite what it should be?

not just you, his rhythm is pretty stuffed on some parts. i just write it off as interpretational mariotunes.

mind you, i did print out some of his sheet music. i can play mario tunes but really simplified :(.

Technically impressive, but I didn't really care for it. I think he's trying too hard to be technically impressive to make really good music. I don't know, some people go for that, I don't really. The music is cool, but I like Overclocked Remix better...

This got a double-take from me, though:
Video Game Pianist wrote:Mission statement

The Video Game Pianist and http://www.VideoGamePianist.com is about promoting video game music and increasing the popularity of video game music.

Since the Video Game Pianist is a student at the Cleveland Institute of Music majoring in piano performance, naturally he has a goal of popularizing classical music. However, it seems in today’s society, the future of classical music depends solely on the success of the video game music industry.

I am not trying to necro post.

I'm replying to this because I don't want to create a new topic then have someone point this one out and lock my thread.

I found the file:

Hold the camera still dammit #@'^$!!

Any pianist here notice he holds his fingers straight while playing? The problem with that is that it holds you back in terms of speed. I used to play like that as well, but since a professional pianist friend gave me the hint, I started playing with bent fingers, you play with your hand in a claw-like formation. Harder at first, but ooh so much faster ;)

Yea, I agree that the cameraman did a lousy job of filming it. After all, what do you need dramatic angle shots of a guy playing a Piano for? It's just a damn piano after all.

i liked the camera style (to an extent). camera movement helps show up details when you are dealing with low resolution. it would have been harder to distinguish the keys from one another if the camera was panned back to a wide view.

We pianists take great offense at remarks like those. ;)
