I use dual joysticks.
At the moment, A Logitech 3D Extreme(being warrantied, today) and a CH Flightstick.

3D Extreme
x-axis = heading
y-axis = pitch
hat = slide
trigger= primary wep
3 buttons on top set for fusion, md, chaff
some buttons on the base set for taunt macros

Flightstick
x-axis = bank ...

i really don't dream about descent b/c i spend enough of my waking time playing it...

The only commercial PC games I have on my computer are Descent 2 & 3.
FPS games always let me down in the mobility and reaction of your controlled character. Roll, dufus! Dodge!
