Regarding the Iraq prisoner scandel, the following poll allows you to vote on whether Rummy should be given the boot or not. Mine of course is no, as though Rumsfeld knew and condoned what was going on.

I think what's at issue, more than Rumsfeld knowing/not knowing, is that the photographs are actually quite old, having been shot back in January from what I understand. Hence, there's suspicion about whether or not someone tried to cover it up or obfuscate the truth from Congress. In other words, why did 60 Minutes learn about the offenses before virtually anyone in Congress did?

Do I think Rumsfeld should get the boot? Insomuch as I don't like him, I don't feel this isn't significant enough to give Rumsfeld the pink slip. There are upwards of 150,000 soldiers in Iraq. Whenever you have that many people, you will inevitably have a few bad apples. In this case, we're talking about 6 in this particlar incident (.004%), I believe about 20 overall. In no way does this characterize American troops as a whole, and the more intelligent Iraqis are quick to see through Al-Jazeera's hate-inducing garbage. And I don't think this inevitability should fall on Rumsfeld's shoulders, per se.

Rumsfeld definitely needs to launch an investigation into who did know and court martial every last "soldier" involved, which he is already in the process of doing. These people deserve stern consequences not only because what they did was so vile, but they also recklessly threatened American soldiers across the Arab world with new violence.

As one reporter said, with all of his millions, Bin Laden couldn't have paid for a better PR campaign.

Ever notice anytime anyone anywhere in government spits on the sidewalk, suddenly the usual suspects pop up seething with outrage and calling for the resignations of every member of Bush's cabinet, the president himself, every Republican member of Congress, as well as demanding apologies, public lynchings, Congressional investigative committees and sensitivity training? So very predictable and thank goodness very few Americans pay attention to them anymore. You can only cry *WOLF!* so often before no one comes running.

btw, Sol, no media outlet *broke* this story. It was handed to them on a silver platter by the Pentagon. The investigations started last January. The media likes to pretend there is a cover-up that it cracked but really it's just the media covering its azz for being asleep at the wheel. Again.

Goob makes a valid point Bash. Regardless of political party, you do see this happen when either side ends up getting fuel to discredit the other.

It's a criticism of both sides, rather than of one. Shaking your finger at the dems for it is a waste of time...vote them both out for their poor behavior.

I voted no, because, well, the "Iraq prisoner scandel" wouldn't be my reason for wanting to see him go. :)

How do you suppose that a third party would come to office? By smothering the two dominant parties with compliments? From what I have read you are a strong advocate for voting third party, and you are continuously criticizing both existing parties.

It seems to me that the only way for a third party to become a dominant force in America is that they would have to be extremely vocal in their criticisms of the two dominant parties, as you often are. Sharply noting how they â??are different,â?

The idea is to either 1) vote for someone that has plans/ideals you believe in that have a chance of getting absorbed by the big 2
2) vote for a candidate not rediculously on the take that fits your ideas
3) Just vote for someone that fits your ideas

Goob my point was more about time wasting, rather than political mudslinging. Its hard to get mudslinging out of politics, but the level its at right now is granstanding.

i dont think this scandal broke earlier for the mere fact that there were no pics. People could read about abuse and not think it's violent. You see it with your own eyes, all the sudden it's very real.
